Gorton had to take control of the situation with the players when the coach failed to do so. I will die on this hill.
If DeAngelo couldn't find the handle on himself after being delivered an ultimatum like that, then he does not POSSESS that handle. And if even dumb old me sitting at home can figure that out so can 30 NHL general managers. This guy is over and should be.
Another subject: I don't like cheap easy scapegoating. Most particularly of the "we never get a good coach" variety. But I also don't love pinning the tail on sportswriters. THAT said, how do you take Brooks seriously when he agitated for Trouba to be named captain a week ago and now he demands that Kreider be anointed... DESPITE denying that he gave TDA a well deserved blast in the mush? How does a guy with this many years in the business think everything devolves upon someone wearing the C? Does he already forget the McDonagh tenure? Character out the wazoo and yet his game disappeared the moment they sewed it on. W T F.

Just a heads up I’m pretty sure GMs don’t like getting involved in situations like this. So while I think Quinn won’t get fired he is for sure on the hot seat.

So there’s been way more issues than just that benching for gorton to draw a line in the sand.
Look I’m not defending Tony D at all but I did think it was BS to scratch him after that first game UNLESS something else happened in the locker room we don’t know about. Either way Tony obviously has anger issues. I bear no ill will toward him and hope he gets his anger issues under control.
