There was a made for tv old timers in the 80's I believe it was all original 6 teams.

What was it called? I remember a game where the announcers were shocked at the shape of Derek Sanderson.

I believe it was broadcast on ctv and it's affiliates.

I remember that series. It was called the "Original Six" and it was originally on about 1981-82 and I liked watching it even as a kid back then on weekend afternoons on CTV (for me, it would have been CJOH in Ottawa). Great way to be introduced to many of the names that my Dad grew up with twenty five years or so earlier. I believe that Red Storey was the host.

I can even remember watching it a few years later (about 1986) when in the Maritimes on a family vacation (I guess because it was taped and produced in Nova Scotia). Funny how you mentioned this show as I was thinking about it not long ago and was wondering why it has not been brought back on ESPN Classic Canada (since they show a lot of stuff that does not seem really relevant to classic sports, IMHO).

I remember the show, but wasn't a regular avid watcher. Unfortunately, I didn't become interested in the history of hockey until a few years later. I'd love to be able to watch some old episodes today, now that I know more about those players.

Now I'm going to have that song they'd play before the commercials running through my head all day.

Haha WOW, thanks for posting this. I remember it clearly. In Toronto, it used to be on (if i am remembering it correctly) at 6 pm. Then I would watch Hee Haw with my dad at 7, and then HNIC at 8.
There was even another broadcast, which I presume was a local show. It was an Italian league (based out of Toronto, but all teams named after Italian provinces) that I used to watch too. Wow, the memories that just flooded back.
As Archie Bunker would sing, "Those were the days..........."

In a good way? Or bad?

I remember this program as well. It came to mind to me today and when I tried searching google for it, this thread showed up. I cant seem to find any other information about it. I am not sure what the title of the program was. Original 6 doesnt sound right to me, but hey its been a long time.

My recollection was that it was short mini games of original 6 teams. Uniforms were the same color but I dont think they had logos.

I really wish I could find some more information on this show, its stuck with me since childhood buried as a foggy memory. I recall watching it while playing rod hockey with my friend next door on saturday afternoons.

If anyone finds any archived info on this show, please share.

That wouldve been around 1981 when CFMT Multicultural Television (now called OMNI TV) Toronto broadcast Canadian-Italian Hockey League Games... afraid I cant help you or anyone else out on that other obscure series of NHL Old Timers Games.

My memories of that time was that CBC news was on at 6:00 with Jan Tennant, then it was Tommy Hunter on at 7, and then HNIC at 8. I can remember the Original Six being on the local CTV outlet (CJOH Ottawa) on Saturday afternoon.

I thought it was on chch.. but yes, there was an original six series and the teams wore jerseys with their same colour, Chicago (aways dark red) Toronto (aways dark blue) the logo was a large star, inset with the citys' name on an angle. I happen to have the Chicago (aways) jersey which I will post as soon as I dig it out of my many boxes in storage. The internet does not have any info on this league. no pics or evidence of this only for these posts. It was a great series to watch, seeing our favourite players from the past.
