Okposo, Leddy, Nelson, Lee

Parise, Carter, Ballard Prosser.

Not to mention honorary Gophers Haula and Vanek.

Not a big deal in Canada, but wonder, is that some kind of record for an American state? Esp with 2 team leaders in points head to head.

If only Coyle had stayed sick, we coulda got Stu Bickel out there and made it 9.

YOW
also on this note, the sens somehow have 3 dmen from ottawa. Not ontario, not the ottawa valley, but ottawa.
because they normally play on different pairings, the sens (when methot is healthy) always have a local boy on the ice.

You missed another honorary one in Justin Fontaine who played college Hockey with the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs.

Aaah, but you're forgetting another honorary one. John Tavares once had a layover in Minneapolis when his family was vacationing in Miami during the winter of '93.

We can count him too then, right? :sarcasm:

Since you're talking about the top, How many MN players have played for #1 (Petes) or #2 (Gens),
in graduates to the NHL? Just curious.

I couldn't really tell you offhand. A good number of them come up playing high school hockey (Mr Hockey) and then transition to college as opposed to going to the junior route so I'd guess not many.

rare indeed. High school hockey is a huge draw in MN. Most kids dream of playing in the State Tournament for their local school growing up. Some guys go to Shattuck or Ann Arbor but juniors is pretty rare. The pull of the Gophers is huge too, and the Sioux (especially in northern MN), not to mention the UMDuluth, Saint Cloud etc.

A good amount go to the USHL after the high school season for the last month and playoffs.

Interesting fact...from 2001-Present, 11 Minnesotans have won a cup. Only 4 Cup Champs did NOT have a Minnesotan on their roster during that period...which were in 2002, 2008, 2011 and 2012.

So statistically speaking, in teams with a Minnesotan vs a team without for the cup, you increase your chances if you have a Minnesotan on your roster. ;)
