Same with Kakko, I feel. He's been better and he's earned a chance. Roll with him in the top 6. We have nothing to lose.
Fully agree. He’s been very good in the offensive zone. He just needs the coach to ride him and stop yanking him around the lineup. Stop over thinking it. He’s like primed to breakout but Quinn seems to be overthinking his usage and moving him around too much and it’s holding him back IMO.

Would be nice if Panarin-Strome-Kakko could be a thing. But the problem with that line is the problem with this team: just so slow, has to be one of the slowest.

Chris Kreider for 6.5 million dollars forever isn't pretty, but if this is what the forward mix is going to look like? I kind of get it, and at least tonight he was very good.
Exactly on paper looks amazing but in reality if Panarin can't enter the zone with control the line would be useless. None of them are fast enough to track the puck down in the corner and create offense.

They got absolutely killed in the second. Changing the d bench in the third wasnt the issue.
It absolutely was. They became disjointed and burned the team out. They lost all their structure. Also blew lead in 3rd. Also can someone win a f’n faceoff.

Kreider? What’s he saying?
To paraphrase: you can’t play east-west and look for pretty plays all the time. You need to go north-south. That’s how you need to play to win.

That’s not Quinn hockey.

Edit: you can see that CK is frustrated — not just with the results. He just looks like he wants to break free and be allowed to play his game. I think DQ holds him back.

I’m not ready to give up on Quinn. There is a lot going wrong and I’m not sure the coach is the problem. But I’m starting to have doubts. I still give him this year to see what this team does.

Fair. I don’t see Quinn as the coach to bring this team to the next level though. He’s nothing more than a placeholder to bring the kids along, IMO.

He will be replaced next year in-season, IMO.

How many times did they leave the slot open tonight? To say they’ve had excellent d structure is a bit insane.
Again, tonight was bad. Overall this season so far they’ve been pretty solid. They’re almost exactly middle of the league in high danger chances against - last year they were the third worst in the entire league.

We can't beat a depleted team in the penguins... we are cooked if we continue this kind of play.

Serious question...how bad does it need to get before they make a coaching move? We are 2-11 in our last 13.

We are loose defensively. We cant hold a lead. Questionable personnel decisions. We should not be this bad.

Honestly I don’t think it’s on the horizon.

Putting coaching aside for a moment, the truth of the matter is this isn’t a great roster.

Right now we have no quality centers. Zibanejad looks very much like he still has COVID. Chytil is out. Strome is Strome. Howden, for all his improvements, is still a bottom six center.

We have no third pairing on defense. The answer isn’t Smith, or Johnson, or Hajek. And ADA looks lost.

For all their over-achievements, 1/3 of forward group is comprised of AAAA players. Even when they exceed expectations, there’s still a reason they are AAAA players.

Finally, without top notch goaltending, we simply aren’t going to overcome those other factors. At this point, it’s quite obvious that they need to make a decision in goal and let someone try to get into a rhythm. You cannot rotate goalies like this, coming off a past 10 months like we’ve seen, in a shortened season like this.

I don’t think they can let him keep ruining Kakko

Let's be real. Shesterkin is an .894 and has one game above a .900. He isnt exactly stealing games. If you're critical of Georgiev you need to be equally critical of Shesterkin.

Both players are 25 with several years of track record. Shesterkin is the starting goalie on this team. Georgiev is the inconsistent backup. If Quinn doesn't realize this, then he's a f***ing moron.

Aside from one bubble game where he rushed back from injury, Shesterkin had not played a game since MARCH. He needs to get a run of games going, and with his track record--here, in the AHL and in the KHL--he deserved a significantly long leash to find his game. Your goalie is the LAST player whose confidence you want to screw around with, and even Weekes was saying that he thinks it's a confidence issue with Shesty right now (in the article on ESPN.com about what's wrong with the Rangers). This should not be treated as a 1A/1B situation where they split the games evenly. If they have doubts that Shesterkin is the goalie of the future, then they need to get him in as many games as possible to figure that out NOW. Frankly, looking at how they've performed over the last few years, I don't see how anyone can be confused about who the starter for this team should be.

That's the biggest knock I have on Quinn right now--the stuff he keeps messing up is obvious stuff.

If anyone wants to give some info from the postgame that would be great. I shut the tv off and threw the remote across the room after crosby scored.

I can’t really shit on Quinn for the center situation. You can dial Mika’s minutes back but who is he giving them to?

Strome is a 3C and Howden is better on wing

Can we stop including the Bubble in the record? That was literally a pause during the Season where we were on fire and its pretty evident most of our players didn't think the season would resume again.

But every other team was ready to play. It was another example of quinn being out coached and not having our guys ready to play.

And if we remove it we still have 2 wins in 8 games this year.
