GDT: #8 – Sabres at Islanders – Tue Oct 15 – 7:00PM ET – MSG-B, Bell TV – WGR-AM

This is a different team when the 2nd line actually produces. Not saying that they'd be good with the FES line producing consistently, but they wouldn't be 7-goals-in-7-games horrific.

youre saying if 2 lines consistently produced they would score more than a goal a game? goin out on a limb huh

Thomas Vanek not with his best Hockey in the last Game, but he did what he can. PP goal in front of the Net ..nobody can do that better in the NHL i think so. And a great PS against Nabakov.
For me good -was Foligno -he have big talent i hope he can score more and go on First line wth Vanek and Hodgson.

I was at the game last night. Sabres couldn't enter the offensive zone to save their lives. It was terrible to watch. Vanek's skill set is amazing. He stood out like no other player on the ice. Tallinder is super underrated. His decision making is superb and he is very steady. He and Miller have very good communication and trust in each other. Miller was great. Even though he is on the decline, he is a great goalie. All and all the Islanders were a lot faster and skated circles around Buffalo. Myers was physically invisible out there. No one fears skating close to him. Not good for a big guy. Out side of Vanek, Buffalo's passing was embarrassing. Constantly behind the intended target, or in the skates or getting intercepted. Buffalo needs to get back to basics. You are not going to get much wins when you rely on your goalie to make 41 saves for you.

I didnt realize he was playing center. I just thought he was taking the draws.

He'd been handling the centers defensive responsiblities in some games earlier this year, so this just seems like a continuation. Nice to see him continue to look for contact even if he has farther to go to find it.

Wut? You walked away from that game most impressed by Vanek and Tallinder? I thought they were two of the worst players on the ice last night, especially at ES.

Where you at the game? I was a few rows from the ice. A lot of stuff is lost when you watch it on tv. If you have ever played defense and watch Tallinder in real life you can see he is a very steady defense-man with good decision making. It seems many people can't recognize a good defensmen if he is not scoring or hitting people.

Thanks for letting me know that one has to be at the game to draw conclusions. First, I've long been a Tallinder fan, so spare me the monologue about not appreciating positionally sound defensemen. But Hank had a rough game. He had a couple hand grenades in the defensive zone. Not his best game by any stretch. Second, Vanek was poor for most of the game at ES. He flew the defensive zone on a couple of occasions--par for the course with him--and lazily waved his stick at players skating past him through the neutral zone. I didn't like his game the other night, PP and shootout goals notwithstanding.

I don't think that's the point.

I've gone to games and come away impressed by a certain player or players, only to come home and read one or multiple people trashing that player in the GBU.

It can be a completely different perspective being at the game.

Sure, and you can miss certain things, too, especially if you're close to the ice. E.g., angles certain guys are taking defensively, backchecking assignments, etc
