They were running a 1-3-1, but sometimes they rotate out of it, you aren't always going to be in formation. I really don't see how you can complain about the PP tonight, they were on it. Only reason they didn't score was the opposing goaltender.
you need shooting threats on the dots to be successful.

They rarely bring it in tight and we did not have the proper personnel lined up

puck movement was better. Zibs is still the only 'main' threat. Why? Why can't Panarin be set up to one-time on the left dot? Why can't a LHS be set up to one-time from the right-dot? 1-3-1 is about taking whats open. Letting the puck movement create open lanes. If open lanes are presented with no threat of shooting.... whats the point? besides puck possession, which we had in spades

The individual talent made the best of it but its a poor PP setup by design. Our best chances came with the chaos of broken down plays not because of the 'structure'

Because he scored, I'm going to forgive Laf for the Rick Nash Special that would've put them up 3-1.

It still baffles me that Quinn insists on playing JJ over Smith, an experienced vet who is more than serviceable. This is not some rookie kid that Quinn doesn’t trust who JJ is playing over, which is understandable in some cases. But even then, they would probably be a better choice over JJ. JJ is possibly the worst defenseman we’ve ever had. Worse than Staal. Worse than Girardi. Worse than Hajek. Worse than Kampfer. Worse than Gilmour. Worse than McIlrath. Worse than Raphael Diaz.
Worse than Roman Hamrlik in his legandary 12 game stint? Christian Bäckman? Stu Bickel?

You know what I think?

kakko will be part of the jack eichel package and this org is prepping us for it already

I’d rather try actually giving Kakko top 6 minutes before moving him with a significant add on for an expensive center

Hmm, I was probably too young to grasp the game of hockey as well as I do right now. I mean, I’m still dumb compared to most of you guys, but it’s much better than it was.

Right before Michael Myers comes in and does his thing?!

I remember him having an incredible shift on the PP in his first game, or one of his first games as a Ranger. He was pretty underrated though, and he came around a few years too early. I think he'd be a mainstay in the current NHL
I’m pretty sure that’s one of the only shifts of his that’s in my clouded memory of him.

Interesting point, and you might be right. What about Clendening? I liked him as well.

You're probably right. Small but quick.

Hope Kakko sticks with it. You can see the effort is there and he’s getting a little quicker and even getting into some of the dirty areas.

Michael Myers is a metaphor for Quinn putting Johnson back in with DeAngelo, putting Howden with Panarin, and making Smith a forward again.

Who is this kid Colin Blackwell? He had more shifts than the Bread Man tonight! WOW! He was noticeable every shift. Hard to believe this second year never was,.. is that good. We might have struck gold signing this guy for pittance. Seems just the kind of gritty, in your face guy to replace Fast on the second line. What a pick up. He was deservedly rewarded with OT ice time with the effort he put forth, and was huge in bringing home the W to end this road trip.
