You know its entirely possible he lights the world on fire those first 9 games and then struggles to find consistency? It's a long season with a lot of ups and downs. Even Henrique got benched a few times in his second season. You think they're going to let a guy keep making the same mistakes because he had a good 9 games in the beginning of the season?

No, I don't. And I wouldn't want them to.

Your original statement was that he would be "benched a lot." I don't mind a game here and there for someone to sit with him and show him the mistakes he's making. I was responding to you saying he'll be "benched a lot."

They'll know in those 9 games whether or not he'll be benched here and there to tweak his game, or if he'll be "benched a lot." If it's the latter, he won't play a 10th game.

That is literally all I'm saying.

Why are you arguing semantics with me? If he plays 60 games with out being injured, that doesn't qualify as being benched a lot?

Furthermore, in those 60 games, it's not a stretch to see him to get sheltered even strength time and no special teams. What's more beneficial, playing 18-19 minutes and playing all situations or playing 11-12 of only even strength?

Everybody wants to see this kid ASAP, but I'd rather take our time with him because, like I said before, there's no need to rush him.

Who said they dont give him 15-17 minutes a night with PP and a little PK for 60+ games.

We have no idea how this coaching staff is going to work. If they are here to develop then they young guys will gets lots of minutes.

Where are these numbers coming from?

And you have no idea if he'll be sheltered, or if he needs to be. Or what type of special teams minutes he'll be getting. Or even what the hell line he'll be on. Or if he'll be in New Jersey in December.

Let's just end this here.

This is typical treatment of a young player on a pro team. What I'm saying boils down to having big minutes in a lower league rather than low minutes in the big leagues.

Is it a stretch to say he'll be sheltered? That he won't be used on the PP or PK until he earns that time? That he might get benched as part of the learning experience? The answer is no. If I did a poor job explaining that, I apologize.

I think we're in vague agreement.

**** this offseason, man.

Since it's the dog days of the offseason...

What number do folks see Zacha eventually wearing? He was 14 in Sarnia and 13 for the Czech Republic.

I'd like, in order: 12, 10, 18, 8.

I mean if Zacha is ready, he's ready. If they want him to play, he'll play. I personally think he'll be back in junior this year, but it's way too soon to tell, obviously.

I think that 12 would be nice, but I think he's one I'd like to see a 20something number on for some reason. not sure why. He feels like a 25 to me. Maybe a 21.

Kyle Palmieri has 21

He wore number 37 at camp. It'll be interesting to see if Shero keeps the no numbers over 35 policy that Lou had.

I actually hope so. I feel like there are some things that are Devil's tradition that won't affect the way the way the team plays nor the fans react/behave. This is one of those examples.

Or it's one part of the tradition that really doesn't matter anyway so there'll be less fuss about ending it. 13 was just a personal (from McMullen) superstition, not truly part of a tradition. The high number thing I'd consider more of a tradition cause there was a tangible reason why it could matter - if perhaps a bit misplaced, cause honestly high numbers aren't what get people feeling and acting entitled.

For some reason I get a weird feeling he's getting 13 (especially since it seems like this is the offseason of change) but really it's just a number, who cares so long as it doesn't get changed fifty times. That was one thing I didn't particularly care for, when we'd change guys' numbers around.

I look at it this way... Boucher ended the season as 12 and wore 32 (12+20) at dev camp. Zacha wore 37 at dev camp, so I can see him getting 17 (37-20). Who knows..

If 13 is available, don't you think Cammy would change to it?

I'd like to see him with #9 or #17

High numbers (or number 13) for Zacha and everyone else don't really fuss me. At this point I almost find the question of whether there will be high numbers (or number 13) allowed more distracting than a high number could be. I never really believed that a high number (or number 13) was magically going to make a player more egotistical, but I also think it's a bit silly for players to care too much about the numbers they wear. Whatever decision is reached, I'm fine with it, because it's not an issue I have passionate feelings about either way.
