I really don't get this Holik comparison when it comes to Zacha. Zacha is so much faster and smoother. I know Zacha has size, a physical edge to his game and they're both Czech, but I don't see it at all. Holik was a bull and yeah he had skill, but he did not have the top end skill Zacha has.

Zacha also doesn't have Bobby's sarcastic wit and gift of gab either.

Remember Bobby's comment on Mike Mottau's slapshot? lol.

The only way Zacha should make the team is if he has a Jordan Staal-type showing in camp and preseason. He needs to be so good that we can't keep him off the team.

Otherwise, he goes back to juniors and hopefully puts up 90+ points.

I think the plan is Zacha on the team. Why would Hynes/Shero trout him out like that?

Keeping Zacha in the NHL this year wouldn't be like eating a fruit that isn't ripe. It would be more like putting a smart kid in an advanced learning program. In the NHL, he learns from the best in the world, he gets to play with Elias, and he has a role already set for him.

Numerous scouts have said he is NHL ready.

My theory is, with all this hubbub surrounding Zacha, he's gonna have to work his way OFF the roster. I think he'll be given every opportunity.

How can a scoring forward be NHL ready if he didn't even score that much in juniors?

He needs to learn how to dominate juniors offensively before translating that to the NHL.

It doesn't serve us to have Zacha on the fourth line and playing a grind game.

Haven't you stated that "dominating juniors" or scoring at the level doesn't really translate or equal NHL success?

I think the plan is for him to play a top nine role this year. By walking away from Gomez and I doubt they sign or trade for a center. They feel Zacha is ready.

I think the junior dominance has to be one of the first items on the checklist for a potential 18-year old NHL player.

I know I'm not involved and I do trust the organization to do what's best, but personally I would just be a lot more comfortable sending him back.

he had 34 points in 37 games and dealt with two suspensions and nagging injuries.

I just get the vibe that Shero and Hynes are playing him and setting him up as a player that is featured.

Quite the opposite. Dominating in juniors is pretty much a prerequisite for a top six player in the NHL.

It's a very small list of players who were sub PPG guys in juniors that end up being top six NHL players. It could happen, but the Patrice Bergeron and Jordan Staal jumps from juniors to the NHL are more exceptions to the rule.

It will come down to camp and preseason. If Zacha forces our hand, then so be it. I just won't want to rush him.

Do we really want to go down the Edmonton road of forcing guys in to early at the center position? Let him play and be successful in junior. Not get beat down because he is forced to play a tough position at a young age on a crappy team.

"When told Friday about Zacha's picture with him in 2003, Elias responded via text, "Wow. Hopefully, he will be the next Patty.""

Classic Patty

Not all prospects are alike, there is no central casting.

Edmonton didn't force anyone to play early. They are a mix of incompetence and no structure. The Devils are a mix of veterans/tweeners and youth. Also, they have solid goaltending and a defense structure.

I think Shero and co. thinks he's ready. Shero said that if traded the pick Conte was going to fall out of his chair. Obviously the Devils have honed in on him for awhile now.

He was sub by three points. I think that the Devils have done their homework on this guy that's all.

Him playing alongside Elias has to be motivation and great for both of their careers.

Elias Zacha XXX

Again, I'm all for the meritocracy. I feel that the Devils will give him every opportunity to make the team.
