Memories...

Thoughts...

What do you remember of the greatest game we might ever see for a long long long time and perhaps of all time.

That was Hockey at it's purest, and best, everything we enjoy about the game was represented within that 67 minutes of play.

And who would win in a match up Canada 2010 vs. Canada 2014?

Awesome game, no doubt.

But still, **** Crosby for ruining what would've been a memorable comeback win...

Instead, we must settle for a memorable win for Canada where the best player in the world scores in OT to win gold for the host nation to also set the record for the most gold medals in Winter Olympics history. Such a letdown... :sarcasm:

What I love is about that reactions video is how it provides a glimpse into how much that win meant to Canadians. Crosby's goal is now remembered along with Henderson's rebound and Gretzky to Lemieux.

My. Favorite. Olympic. Moment. Ever.

As a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada, I got to witness the "Miracle on Ice" as a kid. Great moment for the U.S.

However, for me, nothing will ever top seeing Crosby light the lamp at 7:40 of OT to give Canada Olympic Gold in hockey on "home ice". :yo::yo::yo:

Canada 2014, comfortably. Canada 2014 never looked like it was in trouble, and late in close games it started dominating opponents even more. Canada 2010 had a bad habit of being passive in the closing minutes of close games.

I think the greatest aspect of it all is how it brought people together and made people smile, that's what athletes do for us. I still remember the moment it definitely doesn't feel 6 years ago.

More people seem to explode in this building.

Great moment for the home crowd; however, I don't think one can compare the best-on-best Olympics to any other hockey tournament (and us Canadians have some great moments in the WJC as well).

Here is good read about the atmosphere in Vancouver heading into and during the 2010 gold medal game:

Patrick Kane: "I guess it was tough the way it ended, but looking back on it now, it was great for hockey, great for the game, great for the growth of the game. I can remember standing in line there to get my medal and kind of looking around. Our team was pretty quiet. We were just looking up in the crowd. You see grown men hugging each other, crying. The crowd was going crazy. It was almost to that point like, 'Oh, this is pretty cool, too.'"

Ryan Whitney: "A little upset. Part of it is you have to see all those guys so happy. The crowd was going bananas, that makes it a little tougher. I just remember wanting to get off the ice. You're standing there for a decent amount of time. They're celebrating ... it takes forever."

watched the 1/4 final game in my Moscow apartment with a couple of other expats...oh what a night.

the next day booked a ticket home to enjoy the gold medal run and to hopefully celebrate a gold medal on Canadian soil. Thankfully the boys came through under immense pressure and pulled it off.

Russia can win Canada
in that match ?:)

I still remember it like it was yesterday. What an awesome day. "Sidney Crosby with the golden goal!!".

Singing O'Canada at the top of my lungs on the front porch with the entire neighbourhood singing along, honking horns and just screaming in joy. Lifetime memory.

I remember fist pumping on my knees in my sister and brother in laws living room while our 5 young kids jumped around us screaming.

Going back to 2002 was almost as sweet for me. Watched it with a bunch of buddies and when we won, we jumped in my pickup truck (some in the box) and drove up and down our main bar street in London. All the bars had emptied Into the street and it was a street party. The NHL should always allow players to play in the Olympic Games. I have never seen celebrations like that in the street across the entire country for any other sporting event!

Ha true! For Sochi I made a big breakfast and started crushing Caesars for game time. Went to bed at 11 am for a couple of hours because I was drunk. Unfortunately it will be at least 2026 before we get another North American Olympics. 28 year old McDavid!

I was in Chicago and the ESPN Zone restaurant downtown hosted an gold medal watching party (that was partnered with the Blackhawks watching party group somehow). Not many Hawks fans showed up, but someone created a Canadian game watching party event on Meet-up and about 150 Canadians descended on the place. You could tell the restaurant hostesses were confused as to what was happening because more people wearing Team Canada paraphernalia kept on showing up so they just sort of pointed us towards the center area of the restaurant where a growing group of Canadians were gathering. We pretty much owned the entire middle of the restaurant by the opening faceoff. As the game went on more and more tourists wandered in from nearby Michigan Avenue, started following the game, and they sat in the empty seats along the edge, forming a ring of USA fans around us Canadians.

I remember during the middle of play they had the Hawks girls walking around in their skimpy outfits trying to get people to sign-up for free t-shirts. I also remember laughing because they were being yelled at constantly for blocking our view of big screen; these poor girls could not figure out why this apparently insane group of hockey fans wanted to watch the game rather than talk to a pretty girl.

The atmosphere become tense when Kesler closed the score to 1-2. When Parise scored to tie the game 2-2 in waning seconds the ring of Americans cheered loudly and began playfully taunting us Canadians. Chants of U-S-A rang through the building all through the break, but you could tell that to them this was fun, just another sporting event to watch in which USA was playing. They did not understand how much this game meant to a bunch of Canadian ex-pats huddled in a restaurant in downtown Chicago. I cannot describe the intensity of us Canadians during that OT. It was like we were under siege and we were one shot away from being taunted mercilessly by a bunch bandwagon USA fans.

When Crosby scored. We went absolutely nuts (much like the numerous bar celebrations shown in this video). I do not think I ever jumped that high in my life. There was a massive celebration in the middle of the restaurant surrounded by American fans who began to slowly filter out. We sung O' Canada, celebrated (and NBC 5 in Chicago filmed us and interviewed a few of us). We later moved the party to a bar down the street to celebrate all night. Epic game and the win was that much sweeter because we experienced it in enemy territory.

Hard to believe it's been 6 years, this was 3 days after my nephew was born so all around a pretty good few days for me. What an end to a pretty good tournament.
