none are having an impact for the New York Rangers whatsoever

how does a development coach keep his job with that track record?
I always interpreted it as the coach himself was a development project rather than him being good for players development

Not best in the world cant be. :)
So who will coach Rangers in tbe coming weeks?

This is the earliest that I can remember giving up on the season

NO ONE deserves this shit in their life
I suffered through the worst Jets season of my lifetime, missed out on a generational QB but I thought to myself "well at least I have the Rangers!"

...are you saying face offs aren’t important? I’m sorry, but you can sign a FA face off winning center. You’re making it sound like you have to overpay for a C. Winning face offs leads to having the puck and dictating pace and play.
I am saying faceoffs are among the least important aspects of hockey, yes.

@Edge talk us off the ledge here... or come join us...

Even to me this feels sudden... but I feel that Quinn has lost the room.

Well, there’s too many jumpers to talk off the ledge. It’s also hard when it feels like someone was watching a different game for certain players. Like how do you bridge that gap?

That said, this was the worst game since the opener. Personally I think the young talent is progressing. It’s the veteran talent that looks adrift.

In addition to the coaching, the roster construction is just horrible.

We lost Fast, one of the few forwards who can effectively PK and forecheck - did they even make an effort to find a replacement for him? There are far too many one dimensional skill type players and not enough that can play in all 3 zones.

Also, when you have a really young team, it helps to have a few solid veteran leaders in the locker room. The rebuilding Pens had Gonchar and Gary Roberts, the Kings had Ryan Smyth, etc. I guess our elder statesmen is Jack Johnson, not gonna cut it by any stretch.

This year was always gonna hinge on guys like Zibanejad and Panarin playing well. Panarin looks like he was actually drinking vodka and not skating over the summer, and Mika had COVID and is clearly dealing with after effects

Those guys playing well and they smooth out Quinn’s incompetence. When they’re not playing well, this is what we get

Vally just shitting on these guys is literally the best part of the night. Love that has calling them out and mocking the travel from pitt to buff. Absolutely love this guy on network.

This is why I hope HF never shuts down. I checked another board with I'm assuming the "shoot the puck" people and they trashed him for apparently being too positive and having made up stats, because these people are probably 6th grade dropouts and don't understand them.

Vally is 100% right - if you aren't winning games you should because goalies shit the bed, then you aren't going to steal games you shouldn't. They are facing really bad odds to have a competitive season at this point.

Another 1 goal lost. 4 losses in a row. The only saving graces is that these games are close and they are in every one to the end. The next 3-5 games will be very telling. If they start to completely fall apart and are getting blown out the fire Quinn faction may get their way. I had said it would take 10 losses in a row, or a 2-7-1 for the Rangers to fire Quinn. We are almost there.

Time to pick up the phone and see what Brian Boyle is doing. We need him.

I dont get it either. They brought him on to develop the kids, and more so than anywhere else, he has failed tremendously.

Have to think other coaches would get more out of the youth at this point.

I’ll provide what might be the minority opinion here:

I had no problems with the kids. I thought Laf looked assertive. I though Kakko continued to play very well. Howden was excellent. Miller, Fox, etc. no complaints.

My issue is the f***ing vets. They are dispassionate. Unassertive and disjointed.

Panarin looks like he is trying to social distance on the ice.

Strome looks like a stroke victim. Etc. etc.

I’m not concerned about the youth on this team. I’m annoyed at the guys who haven’t shown up in 10 god damn months at this point.

Let's not forget the $8M man. He is a plug. Sure, every once in a while he defends but more times than not, he is a lumbering oaf. Thought Staal caught a lot of shit towards the end of his deal? At least he was a stud pre eye injury. Trouba just blows.
