Leadership is a big issue. And don’t anyone forget this when it once again comes out that the Rangers really aren’t interested in assigning a C to one of these guys.
Someone needs to do something here. Because right now, no one is steering this ship. Not the coach, not the players.

This right here sums it all up.

I'm watching a team that has the reins pulled back and afraid that if they try something and there's a turnover - they'll see even less minutes. But then force feeding more Strome and Johnson.

If that's the cass why are they making stupid turnovers forcing passes that arent there?

This is the easiest team to defend against. Just clog the middle and the neutral zone. The players refuse to get dirty.

How about someone drive to the net and start passing off the pads?

When Blackwell looks more confident and making better decisions with the puck than Panarin Ziba and Strome we got a problem.

It's because no one's taken the brass ring and earned it.

Very clear they’re holding the C for Jack Eichel

Although I can’t even make the joke about the Rangers trying to recruit Eichel tonight because Buffalo waxxed them lol

It is unfair that the Capitals have CapitalOne as a helmet sponsor, because at a quick glance it doesn't look like an ad at all.

I could not agree more.

I’m officially off the Quinn train.
I”m not seeing leadership or direction on or off the ice.

The “C” is the perfect example - just give it to someone and say “you’re it”. They’ll either rise to the occasion or not. This whole half-pregnant thing of “let’s just have a few A’s” smacks of the kind of play-it-safe-not-committed bench mindset we’re now seeing leak onto the ice.

Enough.

That was an ugly one - very different loss imo and one that doesn’t have the positives to take.

Whole team was worse in both zones. Cool that Miller scored but he wasn’t nearly as good as he’s been in his own zone.

One positive was Laf got a number of good chances. Kreider was more noticeable all around goal aside. Buch was very good again.

Mika and Panarin really have to step up and make things happen. I’m not saying trade them or any other wacky knee-jerk stuff but they absolutely need to push the play and take control of the game way more often then they have over this first handful of games. Panarin is drifting backward waiting for someone to dart in or ripping shots off target from far out. Mika, I’m not even sure what he’s doing because he hasn’t stood out at all. I don’t know why so much of the whining is about Quinn when these two are the reason the team has lost these close games.

I was thinking the same thing when people were talking about Kreider between periods.

The Lafreniere worry on here is ridiculous. What is he supposed to do, with all of our vets playing like they've never seen the sport before?

He is going to be one of the best players in the league. Calm down.
Because so far it's looking like Kakko from last year. And yeah, Kakko has been good this year. Not great, but good. But It's not a good sign is it?

these games seem to happen when Brendan Smith is out of the lineup for an ECHL player.

Smith needs to play over JJ every single game.

This team has zero identity because the vets refuse to set the tone and play the right way. It's disgusting.

First thing I'd do if I was coach is, I'd bench many of the vets. Panarin, Zibanejad, Strome. Anyone incapable of playing a simple, hardworking game. THEN, I'd tell all the young guys, go out there and work your asses off. Forecheck, hit, chip and chase. play fast play simple, Outwork your opponent. Keep doing that until you win a game. Make it impossible for them to win unless they outwork their opponents and scratch and claw for goals. Deflections, screenshots, rebounds, weird bounces. Dirty goals. Fight for every inch. THEN, once you do that, add back in your offensive guys. Because what i'm seeing right now is the vets setting a horrible tone. Cheating, forcing plays, trying to make the perfect plays, playing soft.

And if the vets are doing that, you have no chance.

A young team that doesn't know how to outplay, outwork and outhustle opponents is a team that will never grow together and succeed. Without that, there's no base to build off of.

how are you pleased with where kakko and lafreniere are at coming into this league? This isn’t ok man. Lafreniere I watched him absolutely destroy junior hockey. Light years ahead of other prospects and he looks like a lost puppy. No fire certainly not assertive I don’t know how you can say that.

kakko actually does look better and Quinn won’t give him any meaningful mins. So how long is that effort going to continue? He hardly ever has the puck

to say these kids are developing nicely leaves me shaking my head

and YES that’s on top of the veterans being dog shit as well as our goalie who I watched never lose a game in like 5 years. All of a sudden his confidence is shot.

so you change the coach before you lose anyone else.

I have zero problems with what Laf and Kakko are doing right now. My stance is pretty much on par with Valiquette. I liked what I am seeing out there from them.

You know what bothers me?

That I notice them significantly more than the core veterans. Not just once or twice. But throughout the game.

And not just one game, but multiple games. I see the young talent getting chances. I see them attacking. I see them engaged. I see them hustling. I see them getting scoring chances. I see them doing about as well as any teenagers are going to do while being surrounded by a guy looking like he is having stroke out there, a star winger who looks like a shell of himself from last year, a center who looks like he still has COVID, and a line of AHL forwards.

So yeah, I’m not seeing what you’re seeing out there. And based on the reaction to what I posted, I don’t think it’s an isolated opinion either.

My issues right now are with the numbers 16, 93, 10, 77, 31, 40, 27, 8, and a few more. They aren’t really with 13, 24, 23 or 79.
