Man, this guy is huge. Will be interesting to watch him develop. It was only a matter of time before they took a goaltender, they sort of had to given our lack of depth.

Project goalie. He is likely 5 years away from the pro game. Playing another year in BCHL next year before going to RPI.

Kid has to put on like 50 pounds before he hits the pro levels. Also, if he ever does make it, it'll be great to keep the tradition going of calling Alec's Alex.

Didn't expect them to take a goalie in all honesty but this should be an interesting one. He didn't play a lot (though I see he was in for the playoffs) and has good size but really needs to fill out. This pick is for seven years from now.

I am an RPI alum who has followed Dillon since he committed to RPI last September. He was a couple of years younger than Victoria's other goalie last season. As the season progressed he played a larger percentage of their minutes and IMHO played better.

He was drafted by Tri-City of the USHL and may be there next season instead of back in Victoria although he wasn't at their recent camp. Lastly he is an Edmonton (WHL) draft choice and could go there. Hopefully he won't do the latter since he would then lose NCAA eligibility.

He does indeed need to put on weight.

6-2-1 record, with 17 goals allowed in 10 games. Good for a 1.77 GAA and .935 SV%

What makes things more appealing for him, is he's spending another year in the USHL, and then he has another four years he can spend in college. That's five years the Kings have his rights to decide what they want to do with him, and then he can spend another couple years developing in the AHL.

With Quick signed for as long as he has, Dillon, if he develops well, can be held onto for a long time to act as a back-up down the line.

He spent last year in the BCHL not the USHL

Technically Dillon can become a UFA after his junior year of college though.

Same set of circumstances as Gravel, just Dillon would be eleigible to go the UFA route after three college seasons, not four, right?

This applies to LaDue too doesn't it?

Likely won't matter for Dillon, not many drafted goalies it seems go the full four years in college anyway.

Not quite the same as Gravel. Gravel went to school immediately after draft so he was locked up until August 15th after his senior year (4th in college).

Dillon will be in the same situation as Blake Wheeler or Justin Schultz. Since they did a year of junior after being drafted but before college they are only guaranteed locked up until after junior year (4th after draft, 3rd in college). If the player then decides to declare pro they can become UFA on June 1st of that year. Which is the route Wheeler and Schultz took to become UFA after 3rd year of college. If the player decides to return to school for the senior year they are then locked up for another 14 months until August 15th after their senior year.

This will apply to LaDue. He will be eligible to become UFA on June 1st, 2016. If he returns for his senior year he will be locked up until August 15th, 2017 until UFA.

So Dillon has signed to play in Edmonton in the WHL. I think this will be great for his continued development. He has improved greatly and was one of the better goalies in the USHL last season.
