I know its early but I have been a huge proponent of increasing our face off wins for years. We are currently off to a wonderful start at 57%, especially considering we have not been over 50% since 2016-17. (51.7) This and the power play being at 40% right now have been crucial to our stellar play so far.

I know its not maintainable at these percentages but if we keep the FO% around 52% and the power play in the 24.5% range that would be a huge upgrade for us. Anything above that would be amazing for this team.

i remember looking at the stats one of the games and Larkin was like 75% on the draw or something ridiculous

Faceoff wins cannot be understated. If you don't have the most skilled team getting that possession right off goes a long way towards winning the overall possession game. It also allows for a lot more set plays offensively which we've seen so far this year.

Larkin, Copp and Compher have all been normally strong at faceoffs in their careers. Add in Joey V stellar game in the dot last game and that makes the numbers look good.

Don't know that they can keep that percentage up, but they have strong players for the Wings to continue to do well.

Small sample size, but it gives me optimism after spending the last 7 seasons near the bottom half of faceoff percentage in the league.

Really unbelieveable. Especially what Veleno has done. Struggled years at 40% and now he is 65.

Team has gone down pretty bad on Faceoff%.

It's now 49,4% and 21th best.

There's also no any extra tactical advantage on Copp and Compher as L + R handnesses (you can switch sides or versus opponent handness). Copp has same Dzone percentage as at last season and Compher is taking somehow more faceoffs. On long run, Copp has stronger faceoff history.

I don't get this at all. Copp should do this defensive zone facoffing just by himself and free Compher to have his own line.

If you still like to build an Lefty+Righty duo for same line, put Rasmussen with Compher. There's options.

It's still early enough in the season where the schedule has a lot of impact on various stats like these.

We have faced Pittsburgh (#1 in faceoffs), Ottawa (#5), Tampa (#6), NYI (#7), NJD (#8), Florida (#9), Calgary (#10) and Boston*2 (#15).

Our next two opponents are NYR (#2) and Montreal (#4).

I actually appreciate this post.

I was getting really frustrated with the FO%'s as of late but didn't realize we were playing FO juggernauts all year so far. Jesus.
