We need to simplify the offense. No one is handling the puck well. They need to go to the net harder. crash the net, get pucks on the net.

Lastly, this team plays afraid when they have the lead. Just soft, no one wants possession. Everyone cares more about their positioning than being hard on the puck and moving their legs.
They're playing like they're afraid to make a mistake, especially the young guys. That's the wrong way to go about things. Tonight showed that playing scared is a self fulfilling prophecy. It's on the coaching.

No one wants to score. No one wants get the puck and score.

Our PP setup is embarrassingly bad with the talent we have.
There’s no leadership. I think coaching tells them the shape and gives them the freedom to define their roles once they’re on the ice. That’s no way to run a power play. Martin should be running this PP.

Alfie / Panarin - Bonk / Ziba - Hossa / Kakko
Redden / Fox - Chara / Trouba

An overload anchored around the boards close to the goal line by Kakko. The strategy:
  • Kakko skates upward to the circles, turns inward snd shoots low for a rebound
  • Kakko passes to Fox to initiate a shift to the other side of the ice (Panarin anchoring high along the boards)
  • Kakko passes to Fox to set up Trouba for the one-timer, with Ziba simultaneously moving from behind the net to the front of the net. Kakko stays along the boards in case defense picks up rebound snd tries to clear
  • Set up Panarin for one-timers

At least that’s how I see it.

Edit: until Kakko gets his shot going. Then he can also be an alternate shooter.

If the Rangers play as well as they have in the totality of the 5 games so far the rest of the season they will be fine, unless the goaltending is subpar or they have bad luck shooting wise. So as frustrating as it is being 1-3-1 I have confidence they will start being rewarded. That being said we need a lot more from Kreider and Zibanejad.

We’ve got 3 regulation losses in 5 games and in all 3 our goaltending has been a joke. That’s got to get sorted out it should be a strength of this team

Mika kreider strome DeAngelo and I’ll add panarin. Those 5 playing the way they’re playing will tear the ass out of this team quickly if they don’t wake up
Panarin and DeAngelo were fine today, not fantastic but certainly not bad. Mika and Kreider OTOH...

Timing was off to a crazy extent on all the one-timers and east-west stuff. Like, all of it. Have to assume that'll get better over time for us and for teams/lines that play our style.

If the D looks like this, Panarin and Zibanejad are what they were last year, and the goalies aren't total pumpkins they should be have a chance to finish fourth in this silly division. Can't give up a 10 point cushion though.

Seven (7) years of Chris Kreider got me feeling some kind of way.

3/19 that’s roughly 85% while coming in <90%. And most of the shots he’s faced have been standard.

I definitely see Panarin doing annoying things but he's gotten good results in virtually every game :dunno:

He’s a good player, the nature of his game he spends a lot of time in the offensive zone and even when he’s not at his best he’s going to do a lot of things that show up positively on paper.

However the difference between looking good on paper and being a Hart finalist is not doing “the annoying things” as you put it and playing with precision and touch. It hasn’t been there much this year in that respect so far but he’s far from my top handful of issues.
