Yea outside of maybe the top 4-5 players it doesn’t look very strong. The 1st Rd is also going to be very Defensemen heavy with a lot looking like projects that are 2-3 years away. Of course I’m sure there may be some diamonds in the rough but I’m not so sure we get one lol

It's a bad sign for a draft year when the following class is already being hyped up as the next great draft, with Shane Wright being the crown jewel. Damn he is exactly what we need for a dominant next 10 years.

Beniers is the top American prospect and will probably go top 3 but he would not have even cracked the top 10 in the Hughes/Zegras/Turcotte class

I feel more confident about Panarin's contract. He has been consistently elite throughout his career and relies on a mix of his IQ and skill. Kreider on the other hand, I thought that was a much riskier contract as he has been wildly inconsistent throughout his entire career. He also relies on his physical attributes much more than anything else, and that's usually the first thing to go as a player ages.

Kreider's contract is a bit of a gamble I admit but he is still only 29 and a physical beast so I'm sure we have a few more years of solid play from him notwithstanding the first few games this year. This team has only one guy over 30 and that is Smith who will likely be gone after this year. It's essential this team has vets for leadership especially since respected guys like Staal and Lundqvist are no longer here.

Yes and I've also been highly critical of Quinn

I honestly don't know if this is better. It's less stressful, but at least the AV Rangers would have won that game 5-3, scoring on the 5 beautiful tic tac toe goals which would have been their only 5 chances of the game. But at least we'd have those 5 goals and the win.

It was more in reference to those posts like "Quinn would look a lot better if Kreider, Zibanejad and Strome were doing more with all this ice time he is giving them" but that was before the games in Pittsburgh.

I am trying very hard to not make any negative hot takes and the way this team has played since the bubble is more due to circumstances and things would have been soooooo different had COVID never happened. They were one of the teams screwed the most by the shutdown while the Islanders were on like a 7 game losing streak and both Pelech and Cizikas were out for.the season

Undecided if we need to lay off Quinn and the top guys struggling because this season is just going to be a random clusterf*** and it would be a giant mistake to think whatever happens is a representative of what's to come in the future.. or that is just a lazy cop out excuse and these guys are professionals and need to deal with it.

Yeah but if he’s even Newhook level that is a huge boost to us, if we could get him.

I'm with you. Who cares if we had the better analytics when the end result is a loss and no points.

My biggest gripe with Quinn is PP personal and how many games JJ has played.

The team has played very solid with structure and a couple soft goals tonight and Lindgren throwing one in his own net and we would of had solid 3-2 and 2-1 road wins.

Igor doesnt look right mentally. Ever since the big shot he took against the Islanders and and another blow to his head this game he looks rattled. He has been caught multiple times cheating the post or not tracking the puck well.

Maybe theres only so much Russian mojo on the team and Buch is hogging it all.

As Torts would say, your top players need to be your top players. We need more out of Ziba, Panarin, Kreider, Strome. They cant be whiffing on rebounds or passes. They need to hit the net with their shots.

Time to break up that 1st PP unit. That unit at its worst last year didnt score but would get a couple chances. Now its killing momentum.

- First shift after the Strome goal, Letang is looping around in our zone by the far boards and hooks Lafreniere away from the play and he goes crashing into the boards just off camera... He gets up slowly... No call on the ice and Sam & Joe say nothing about it (Sam was in the middle of saying something)... I wanted to check the Pens feed to see if the camera angle would be different and might have captured it - it was still off camera when it occurred but on the Pens broadcast the announcers mentioned Lafreniere going down, but either didn't see how it happened or didn't want to highlight Letang's interference...

- Why was Joe confused about the assists on the Strome goal? Seemed pretty clear that Panarin and Trouba were the last two Rangers to touch the puck before it ended up on Strome's stick...

NHL app was confused about it too, took them a while to add Panarin's assist. One replay and it was clear.

Keeping Kreider was so short sighted and unnecessary. When you take context into consideration, it was dumber than the Girardi extension, at least this team was contending when that happened.

It depends.

If you think that the puck luck, goaltending, and the play of some of our veteran forwards will get better, then it's something to take comfort in.

If you don't? Then doom and gloom it.

I fall into group A. Mika's not gonna suffer from the after effects of the vid forever and while Kreider sucks a flatulating rhino rectum right now, he isn't THIS bad.

But I also think we have issues that run deeper than that: Lack of identity, homogenous forward group, A head coach who refuses to take Strome (who did play better 5v5 over the last 2 games) off of the top PP unit despite going full Karla Homolka on it, the existence of Jack Johnson.

The biggest thing that bugs me is that we're so f***ing easy to play against. Not in a TUFFNESS way (though it does bother me that it looks like we're afraid to hit our opponents, other than that one time Trouba decked Barzal) but we give our opponents so much space and respect. This kind of ties into having a forward group that is too one dimensional - This is why Fast stood out last year despite not being a big point scorer and PDG has stood out so far this year - He's been the ONLY forward on our team who has been able to maintain possession along the boards in the offensive zone (Kakko has been the other one who has been semi consistent with this, it's not a surprise their line has worked.)

This was something in Kreider's game that I was confident would be a plus even as he aged. So far? complete and utter dud. The effort has been putrid tbh outside of game 1 (but at least I saw it so I know its there?)

Some of this is a roster issue (a tiger can't change it's stripes, the FO has to address this in the coming months/years) but it's also a coaching thing. I don't even know what Quinn wants this group to be. Even when they were at their best last year, they kind of looked like this, but their goaltending was on point and their PP was fire.

Quinn really cannot be here beyond this season.

Yeah I figured if Joe didn't see it clearly live he surely would have seen it correctly viewing the replay... 2 minutes after the goal Sam & Joe were still questioning which Ranger touched the puck before Trouba... With Panarin being right-handed it just seemed odd that Joe was thinking it could have been Buchnevich credited with the other assist...

Mind numbingly obvious in 2021... ALL successful high skill teams run a 1-3-1. It creates so many options/opportunities. ADA/Fox at the top. Panarin on the left dot/wall. Zibs in high slot. Krieder in front. Either Laf or Buch on right dot/wall. This is not rocket science. You can set up whoever you want.

The crap they are running now is embarrassing.

They wouldn't have won shit because Lundqvist wasn't in goal and Shesterkin isn't up to the task. Yet. I hope.

What'd I miss?

Somebody gimme a nutshell version. thx.

Main themes:

1. Miller is an absolute stud. Jaw on the floor type game for him. Offensive zone, defensive zone, everywhere, he was good.
2. Shesty let in a couple softies, which has everyone worried and freaking out
3. Overall, defensively, this was a very solid game

Sub Themes:

1.Laffy had a quietly good game. Made some little plays here and there. Looked engaged and more active/comfortable
2.People are mad at Panarin, but he's scoring at more than 1 point per game and leading the team in scoring, so I don't get it.
3. Zibby hasn't quite found his groove yet

I wonder if Igor might need glasses. I am dead serious. I had some problems for a while in Juniors tracking distance shots letting in softies from afar and then I got prescribed linses/glasses and I was good to go. I would think they keep track of this kind of stuff but you never know.

I thought the battle level for the first line went up in the third. That to me was the best they had looked and that includes lafreniere who probably had his best period since game one. Hoping they can build off of that

they weren’t great you don’t win many games with 2 goals but the goaltending did let us down and has in most of these games. Shesterkin is too good to be this leaky. He’ll figure it out he just needs to do so like right now. This is a crucial week starting tomorrow. They have to get back in this thing

chytil has a break in his arm/hand somewhere I’m concerned. It will probably give Howden more ice I think he’s ready for it.

gotta get deAngelo back on the top pp IMO and replace strome.
