Personally, I'm not that impressed by how we've played, except from the backend which has done an incredible 180 with the early play of Miller.

I get frustrated with Quinn/coaching because while we've been 'better' than the other team the last three games, from my point of view that's largely on the defensive side of the ledger. That's a good thing still, but NJ and Pitt both have been garbage so far to start. We're not generating much offense ourselves. The PP is embarrassing when they have 93 stationed literally on the goal line as a one-time option.

I can see the team we can become, but I also remnants of the team we were. This is that transition period that can look quite bipolar depending on the night.

It felt like losing Chytil was a turning point tonight as well.

Nothing against PDG, he’s out there busting his ass. But when you’re rolling a line with PDG-Rooney-Blackwell, you’re definitely going to be sprinting uphill.

The point I'm making is even after being nominated for the Vezina he still had a shitty start to his sophomore season and people are already writing Igor off.
Oh well I 100% agree that writing off Igor is stupid so I’m right there with you on that. I was just talking about the other side of it. That people thinking Igor was going to step in and basically be prime Lundqvist immediately, because that was the general tone of the talk around him all offseason, was foolish.

Now when the top guys aren’t going and can’t bail out Quinn’s shitty system it’s pretty obvious he’s being exposed.

we need an X’s and O’s Coach who is detail oriented. Not this buffoon.

you can clearly tell the top 6 are completely lost and can’t read each other at all. Meaning there is no game plan once they get in the zone.

heres a simple solution for the short term. If you don’t have the puck, craash the net and look for rebounds.

I disagree.

When did Jarry make any tough saves. Where were the second and third chances?
Not sure what type of answer you expect to this. Like, timestamps? They had 22 scoring chances, 8 high danger chances. That’s not incredible but it’s not a bad game or one without chances.

We will agree to disagree on this one.

All things equal, I'm more excited/encouraged about the play of the defensemen than I am frustrated about the goalies or forwards.

You knew some teams would have multiple players with slow starts due to the shortened camp and no preseason.

The Rangers have had many guys come in ice cold, including their #1... and you can’t have that. Really hurts the excitement of having hockey back.

However there are some bright spots and they’ll keep plugging away. They’ll hit their stride sooner or later but they may have already screwed their chances of the postseason with this shitty start

They are only 4 points out of a playoff position but they can't keep pissing away points like this. They should have had a minimum of 3 points against Pitt. They better be ready to play against Buffalo on Tuesday.

I instinctively got mad at him for almost making a meal of the first goal instead of shooting at the open net, but the replay showed that Jarry had already gotten over and into position. Arguably he made that goal himself by not firing blindly and making the play over to Trouba(?).
It was indeed to Trouba.

I love Adam Fox, but he and Strome need to be off the top PP. DeAngelo just ain't worth it if he's not on the top unit.

I'm not sure people thought he'd be prime Hank right off the bat but even prime Hank had off games and off months. Hank quite had one month a season where he would allow a soft goal every game and would allow 3 or more most games.

Pittsburgh is a shell of what they were. They have no business finishing ahead of us.

we are letting it slip away here early. Next week is huge

Im actually happy with the day to day progression of our young players if there's a positive in losing its that Lafreniere looks to be getting more comfortable making plays, Kakko is working hard Miller has been outstanding and Howden seems to have taken another step ahead.

A positive way to look at the season so far is who the actual bright spots have been:

Fox looks elite.

K’Andre as arguably been the second best Ranger behind Fox.

Kakko looks more assertive and like a different player from last season.

Chytil is playing like he wants that 2C job sooner rather than later.

Lafreneire has definitely looked like he belongs and if it weren’t for struggles by some of the veterans he would surely have a stat line to match his good play so far.

Not to mention, a lot of these ice sheets are still pretty new. Pucks are bouncing a ton everywhere to start the season. And we’re trying to thread the needle thru traffic for a back door tap in every time down the ice.

Three loses in a row, in this division, with this schedule, could be quick doom. There are going to be so many three point games this year among these teams that they cannot afford to lose winnable games if they hope to make the playoffs. Because that has to be the (unrealistic) goal or else what are they doing with some of these contracts.
