I don’t envy Quinn with his line building issues. Blank slate, I think something like:

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Strome-Gauthier
Digi-Chytil-Kaako
Laf-Howden-Lemieux
Rooney, Blackwell

issue being that this line up has:
Lafreniere on the 4th line
Not enough guys willing to get their nose dirty consistently to win board battles

I definitely see Panarin doing annoying things but he's gotten good results in virtually every game :dunno:

We can make the analytics look good but I cant remember one tough save for Jarry or second chances. We will go nowhere playing on the perimeter. Our PP is horrible. For the talent we have it is unacceptable.

He’s a good player, the nature of his game he spends a lot of time in the offensive zone and even when he’s not at his best he’s going to do a lot of things that show up positively on paper.

However the difference between looking good on paper and being a Hart finalist is not doing “the annoying things” as you put it and playing with precision and touch. It hasn’t been there much this year in that respect so far but he’s far from my top handful of issues.
Right, so it's not quite last year, but it's a high bar.

I can live with that.

I didn't make a per 60 adjustment so his stats were slightly better but Lundqivst's first 10 games in his sophomore season with a preseason and a full season in the books was:

Save %: 0.878
GAA: 3.60

I'm irate after this game but the posts about how he's not the answer are a bunch of bullshit. It may still be the case but WAY too early to tell.

Edit: I missed the 6-5 loss we had to the Pens the actual stats were fixed.

Does Quinn know he's the coach of the team?

It sometimes seems like he acts/talks like a bystander; not someone who is in charge or in control.
He doesn’t want to take the blame, and he doesn’t want to throw his players under the bus, but he doesn’t say anything to promote accountability. Who knows how he is in the locker room, of course, but his demeanor suggests a general attitude “we’ll get em next time.”

What? Get better goaltending?

We've been the better team in 4 of 5 games this season and have just 3 points to show of it.

Our goaltending has been god awful.
Yup, and if you don't win games when you are the better team because of goaltending and skater lapses, you won't steal any wins when you are not the better team either. It could spiral pretty quickly and before you know it they won 4 regulation games by the end of Feb with this schedule.

After Lundqvist was already a vezina nominee the season before? And ended up being a vezina nominee that season as well?

You’re going to have to excuse people for maybe wanting to pump the brakes on the anointing of Igor coming on the heels of a 15 year career of literally an all time great. Igor is most likely the real deal but some of the talk about him was a little much.

The point I'm making is even after being nominated for the Vezina he still had a shitty start to his sophomore season and people are already writing Igor off.

I'd run this lineup this week if Chytil is out:

Kreider-Zib-Digi
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Lafreniere-Howden-Buch
Blackwell-Rooney-Lemieux

Miller-Trouba
Lindgren-Fox
Smith-DeAngelo

Georgiev

Kreider and Zibanejad need to get going. Digi seems to have that something that makes a line tick. Strome and Panarin have actually been....good? At least on the fancy stat charts, the eye test says they've been dog shit.

Lafreniere goes down to the 3rd to play a simpler game.

I fully expect DiGuesieppe to get a look at 2RW sometime soon

Quinn is desperate to find a Fast replacement, apparently he believes losing Fast was the equivalent to losing someone like Panarin

Who knows when Gauthier is going to get back in.

Personally, I'm not that impressed by how we've played, except from the backend which has done an incredible 180 with the early play of Miller.

I get frustrated with Quinn/coaching because while we've been 'better' than the other team the last three games, from my point of view that's largely on the defensive side of the ledger. That's a good thing still, but NJ and Pitt both have been garbage so far to start. We're not generating much offense ourselves. The PP is embarrassing when they have 93 stationed literally on the goal line as a one-time option.

You knew some teams would have multiple players with slow starts due to the shortened camp and no preseason.

The Rangers have had many guys come in ice cold, including their #1... and you can’t have that. Really hurts the excitement of having hockey back.

However there are some bright spots and they’ll keep plugging away. They’ll hit their stride sooner or later but they may have already screwed their chances of the postseason with this shitty start

I agree, while he hasn't been perfect I really find it hard to complain about his game. He's still been making plays, the playdriving has been there.
I instinctively got mad at him for almost making a meal of the first goal instead of shooting at the open net, but the replay showed that Jarry had already gotten over and into position. Arguably he made that goal himself by not firing blindly and making the play over to Trouba(?).

David Quinn talking about things he’s fully in control of as the coach of the Rangers:

They aren't playing awful and because of that, I don't think Quinn deserves a lot of blame.

Just comes down to the vets and Igor... Goaltending has to be better or this is all a waste of time.
