Zegras most likely back tomorrow, so worth watching for that. If they can't score some goals with a fully healthy Top 9, then I don't know what to even say. Don't even care win or lose. Just score some F'ing goals, and not just one. That is how low the bar has fallen for me with this team.

Hey McTavish was looking great on the wing with Leo (and had vastly better fancy stats than that line with Zegras, if you care about that sort of thing, which Cronin occasionally claims to). Better put him back at center and Zegras, who hates playing wing and looks better at center, back on wing. Good call.

Hey our top PKer just got hurt on a dirty play Ross Johnston did duck-all about. Better continue to scratch Leason, one of our other best PKers, so Johnston can play. Good call.

Unrelated additional complaint: Missed most of Saturday's game live because I was watching my abysmal college team lose their fourteenth straight. Even they managed to score a goal. (Only been shut out twice in the fourteen!)

Yeah I’d like to see Zegs with Cutter but oh well. I suspect Cronin would go to that at some point but he never does things that work right from the get go.

I feel like Zegs with Leo/Killorn didn’t do anything outside of some fancy passing here and there and that’s why some people said they were good.

Hooray for Zegras! Love that he’s back.

That said, Z has 10 goals over the last two years and is coming off his second major injury and was struggling to be productive even before that. He’s probably not going to change much, but we can hope.

I remain convinced he’s a center but maybe he can somehow get Leo AND himself AND Mac going because it’s clear that Cronin can’t, and then we’d have an actual team and not just a line.

I did really like Mac with Leo, they looked good. But the only thing, Z and Leo were producing together before they each had their respected injuries. So it’s not a terrible thing.

It would have been nice though to see Z with Cutter again, but oh well.

Yeah it's not the worst thing, it just seems like a very silly thing. This was the perfect opportunity to get Zegras back at C.

The Zegras-Carlsson-Killorn line was only together for what, three games? They scored two goals. The McTavish configuration scored one goal in two games. At those sample sizes it's really not a huge difference in production.
If it were still (fourth liner of the week) in the spot Zegras is filling, by all means put him there and see how it goes for a longer term. But we have a lot of prior evidence that Zegras generally looks better at center, and McTavish was looking great on that wing right now. Breaking up the currently-working promising thing to go back to a previous promising thing that is arguably a worse long-term solution is just annoying, and IMO questionable coaching even though Zegras with Leo seems to work fine.
 
At this point I don't think even my dog loves me as much as Cronin loves Ross Johnston, and that guy is wagging his tail and howling at me if I even go outside for 2 minutes
