It seemed pretty obvious to me watching that they had a huge shots advantage tonight. Probably Buchnevich won more of the puck battles for them than the other guys they tried in that slot. The PP, I don't know. He still makes some good set-up plays but the team seems pretty loaded with "guys who can be ok on the PP" and he hates shooting even more than he did last year.

Buch is using his body very effectively. I hope he remains confident and keeps shooting the puck.

Fair, but we expect Kreider to improve and play at a high level. With the other 2, Johnson in particular, there's no benefit to waiting out their struggles because this is what they have been their whole career. Not to mention there's a superior replacement in Smith sitting on his ass in the press box.
This doesn't jibe with me unfortunately. Kreider shouldn't get more rope than Strome. It's a shortened season and Kreider shouldn't get his usual 25 games to get hot.

Last thoughts from me, I'm really not that upset. I think on balance of play they probably should have had the points. Two unlucky goals sunk them. I mean they over-pass the shit out of the puck and then take way too many low-percentage shots but still, they played recently. Some guys really need to step it up and soon. Can't get off to too slow of a start in this format.

I've given up on defending Quinn, still does way too much objectionable shit, but that's another thread.
I'm the same. I do not care we lost. I don't even care that much about JJ

but Strome..... Strome having the leash he has. Still, with Panarin. Still, being the 4th RHS on the PP. Still, getting 3v3 time. Its not enjoyable to watch

For sure, he had a nice game and I like him in general. Good depth player. I just thought that move was hilarious--like we f*** up odd-man rushes in OT like it's no one's business anyway, but even with that being the case I was still surprised at how completely ineffective that move was.
We have always been so bad at the odd man rushes. We always play the puck to the outside so the goalie only Hs one side of the net to cover. I want shots from the middle and the other guys going to the net. They always seem so surprised when they get the upper hand.

It's only 4 games and maybe it would help if he wasn't playing on his off wing.
Wasn’t he on the 1st line? I didn’t watch the 1st period though. Who was he playing with?

Look, I just want a f***ing Cup. I’m 24 and I was born 2 years after 1994. The hype that Lafreniere was getting was extremely high. “60 point rookie season.” “NHL-ready.” “Immediate impact.” I’m not saying that these things won’t happen this season eventually, but we’re heading into game 5.

Great- Chytil, Miller, PDG, Kakko

Terrible- Deangelo, Panarin, Lindgren

well it’s a change of pace at least. Coach using Miller in 3v3 over Trouba was gutsy

That PP is so bad. The lone PP goal tonight, guess what, it was Fox because of his individual brilliance. Even Mika's PP against the Devils was because of Fox's no-look pass. Mika actually flubbed his shot.

Another glaring issue is Jack Johnson, he is at (-4) now and our bottom line is a disaster at the moment.. I remember when we were in the stanley cup final with Nasher & a decent 4th line!
Well it is early, but a prediction nonetheless we wont reach playoffs until we fix this. :)
Yep. I think JJ is playing mainly to help teach the new system. Eventually he’ll be sitting. Is my guess. Let’s see what the lineup looks like in game 11. I know we have less time to waste than in a regular season, but that’s the longest I think is close to reasonable to wait.

That’s...very very interesting. Because it means one of two things.

Either this dude is a true red-pilled MGTOW. Or he’s gay. And I wouldn’t mind either scenario.

...Or he just doesn't want to get married? The trend has been moving that way for years now in the USA. Getting married is still the most likely outcome, but people choosing to forego marriage altogether is a big enough percentage that it isn't all made up of women hating basement dwellers. Also, gay people can get married.

On topic--I'm still not too worried about the players themselves. We need to remember that it's not JUST the "only four games" thing, but also the "no real training camp" thing. Looking at our four games, the results have been VERY inconsistent. It's almost as if we have the youngest team in the league and inconsistent play is representative of that. Zibanejad had NO training camp and is nursing an injury. He gets a pass from me. Panarin isn't playing particularly well, and is STILL better than a ppg through four. He's our new Henrik--after one season, "superhuman" is not acceptable because we're used to him giving us "God." Kreider? Strome? Anyone that expected consistency from them hasn't been paying attention through their careers.

The only real concern I have is Quinn, because his job is one that doesn't really need training camp. He's not able to read the writing on the wall, it seems, and that isn't going to get better. Honestly, some of his comments in interviews make him seem like Torts lite. Stuff like "We pulled him out, told him what he did wrong, and sat him for a game. Hopefully he learned." You can't punish a roster of young players into developing. A roster this young needs someone who will teach them. I'm not sure Quinn is that guy. If things aren't changing by mid-season, I change the coach before I change anything about the roster.

As someone who’s 40 and has seen numerous high draft picks in various sports, I’ll tell you firsthand you need to be more patient.

Like you said, we’re headed into game 5.

And despite Laf still being scoreless, he absolutely 100% is NHL ready.

The points will come. Have faith.

Feels like a game that they both let slip away and got unlucky and it slipped away. Bad play by Lindgren, lucky bounce, missed some wide open chances and hit some posts.
That said, really they've played well these past 3 games even if 2 have been losses. Just need to keep that up and things will come.
I think laf just needs to start firing the puck more. Just pot a few, get things going, stop trying to make the fancy passes. Those are oftne the hardest things about the NHL level...it's not there the same way it is in lower levels

It’s not women-haters. It’s our legal system-haters. And Quinn is 54. He’s a part of the generation that, for the most part, gets married. Especially when you have money and you’re not exactly ugly.

I wasn’t worried about Kreider in the immediate future. I’m more concerned about what the contract is going to do to us in a few more years.

Nobd of our Vets are playing good hockey though. Zbad + Panarin both look off. Strome is in la-la land. CK has had 1 solid game so far.

Buch has been out most consistent forward imo.

I think part of this is the fact that Quinn has the lines set up almost like the "kids table" (bottom 6) and the grown-ups table (top six). Even when a kid got onto a line with the vets (Kakko, Laf), they were being plugged into an existing line. Kreider/Zib weren't split up. Panarin/Strome weren't split up. I'd love to see lines like Panarin/Chytil/Kakko, Laf/Zibanejad/Gauthier, and Kreider/Howden/Buchnevich. Mix it up a bit. Get the energy of the kids to light a fire under the asses of the vets.
