Malkin clearly is going to be activated off LTIR shortly. As his AAV is 9.5 million, what is his actual cap hit now and how does he effect the cap as it shows 5.3 million is the prorated number.

I know I’m usually pessimistic and this is a little like the boy crying wolf, but I’m not feeling this game…Dallas has won 3 or 4 straight and are excellent at home and beat us earlier in year in a shootout…we’re coming off a b2b with no practice and it’s an afternoon game…all good streaks must come to an end…lol

Where are you seeing that? LTIR is goofy/complicated. For salary, cap, and paycheck calculations, this season is 200 days long. Take Malkin's $9.5M cap hit divided by 200 and that gives you his daily monetary hits ($47.5k). Looks like whatever site you have seen that on has him coming back soon, which leaves us with about 110 days left in the season. $47.5k times 110 is around that $5.3M.
If Malkin were to stay on LTIR all season, the Pens would have that full $9.5M to play with. But once someone comes off LTIR, then their full cap hit comes with it.

and if Malkin was playing today, wouldn’t he be activated already off LTIR?
I’m pretty sure Geno is not playing today but will play against the Ducks…the reason is there has been no practice the last several days between the b2b games and this early afternoon start…just my educated guess

There is no banking of cap savings on LTIR but at the TDL, a team that has a actual cap at say 2 million under the cap can trade for a player say who has a 4 million or more AAV. Since that is prorated, I would think any player coming off LTIR has a adjusted cap hit.
