Gudas on the top pairing loos very liquid to me. Definitely not solid.
I assume it’s more like 1a 1b 1c I assume mins will be pretty close across board.

Lacombe and gudas were decent together

I expect Mintyukov and trouba to have most mins on blue line

Lacombe and gudas as our bottom pairing is perfect. Dumo previous to last season on the kraken, played the 4 previous seasons on the top pairing with letang in Pittsburgh. Zellwegger has shown he can handle more minutes. Split the minutes evenly between the zell/Dumo Trouba/minty pairs 22m a piece each pairing. Gudas/lacombe 16min

I don’t think Gudas is effective over 16 minutes right now, and that’s being charitable with the term “effective”.
We’ll see…. I think for the most part these are comfortable pairings.

Give gudas a night off every once in a while for helleson

Gudas would have to be missing a leg. Captains don’t get scratched for rookies.

Not generally nope. I remember back in the late 90s, the Sens ended up scratching their tenured captain Randy Cunneyworth, I believe for a few games near the end of the season and then again in the playoffs. It was a huge story at the time, naturally. He was gone that off season, Alexei Yashin took over as captain the next season.

The only nice things for me with Fowler out is that now the pairings can start to be a little more natural and we get the kids in who have been playing well.

Having Trouba and Fowler in the lineup kinda forced the pairings a bit. Gudas can slide naturally down to the 3rd pairing, maybe 2nd depending on who he and Dumo are paired with.

Helleson is still the odd man out but I have to assume he will get a few games in Lacombes place, or if Minty continues to struggle, potentially his as well.

Dont expect the vets to be sat. Gudas with the C isnt getting scratched unless they are trying to send a message to leadership. Dumo is the next guy on the blueline to be traded, so they will want to be showcasing him. Trouba, I just dont see it happening, hes easily the best vet Dman right now.

Would be funny and predictable if we win tonight

Columbus is a sub-.500 team. We should win tonight, but we've been struggling against sub-.500 teams since Nov 19th against Buffalo, or game 19 of our season. The team is simply inconsistent. For example, we earned a point in OT against Mtl (sub-.500 team), the next game completely bomb against Ott (sub-.500 team), and then looking competitive as well as nearly went to OT against Tor (above-.500 team).

We were the "Best of the Worst" in the first 18 games.

Note: Game 28 was the Toronto game.

Now, we're "Meandering against the Worst".

  • We went to OT/SO three times against sub-.500 teams in the Game 19-28 set. In the first 18 games, we only went to OT once against a sub-.500 team in Pitt.
  • In the first five games of the Game 19-28 set (without Fowler), we went 2-1-1 against sub-.500 teams. In the last five games of that same game set, we went 0-1-1 against sub-.500 teams.
