Imagine struggling to score goals and sitting your best offensive defenseman.

We can’t get rid of Fowler soon enough. The guy plays way too soft. That’s probably why he hasn’t moved yet. Playoff teams look at him and his 20 lost battles every game say “no thanks”

Are we talking about the game against the Sens last night about sitting your best offensive d-man? Then I'd agree.

Zell has been scoreless in the past seven games (including the Sens game), but is a +3 rating. LaCombe's last seven games (not including tonight's game) has scored 2g + 0a = 2 pts and a =1 rating. Tonight, LaCombe scored 1g + 1a = 2 pts and a +1 rating. LaCombe brought the offense tonight as he figured in on both goals for the Ducks. He also had a shot ping off the crossbar.

How do you manage to reply to a post that has nothing to do with Lacombe and make it about Lacombe?

Has futility set in yet folks? If we lose to the BJs next it will…. Especially since we are for sure losing against the Jets, Avs, and Knights… sprinkle in Utah who loves to play nasty against us and the flyers who will for sure make a statement on Cutter…bon appetit!

I know you love LaCombe for some strange reason but you can’t honestly think he’s a better offensive player than Zellweger….

We’re on pace to have the worst faceoff win percentage since they’ve been recording that stat.
2 of Toronto’s goals came within 10 seconds of us losing a defensive zone draw. And another one led to them hitting the post. There is not one reliable faceoff guy on the team. Funny enough, our best faceoff man (Harkins) played the wing and didn’t take a single draw.

Zelleweger is absolutely our most dynamic defenseman, but his last point was 8 games ago. Here’s who’s hotter since.

Fowler is not the point of this, it’s the other kid.

So in that timeframe he has the best plus/minus, most shots on goal(almost 3/game) and we sit him? He hasn’t been playing poorly.

It feels to me like Cronin is making the young D all take their turn in the press box rather than icing the best team. That’s not exactly a great strategy.

He’s getting more offensive zone starts than our forwards are - by almost 11% (over Zegras). LaCombe also is being given that benefit. One of the two needed to sit to put Mintyukov in. Who is absolutely not being sheltered.

I didn’t say he’s playing poorly. I said he’s not producing.

Couldn't watch but I can't believe we scratched Olen. Unless he was hurt that's totally unacceptable. We can't score for shit and our most dynamic threat on the back end is sitting in the press box. That should be a fireable offense. But PV is just a big of a smooth brain as Cronin.

Offcourse it is. We all learned way back than Cronin doesn't really call the shots when it comes to lineups.. PV is an idiot too
You're nitpicking a 7 game stretch of raw numbers to, for whatever f***ing reason, drag Zellweger to prop up one of your favorites.

I don't consider either a favorite of mine, so I'd like to say I'm being objective when I say that objectively speaking, Zellweger is a better offensive defenseman. He is better at moving the puck in transition both with carrying the puck with speed and connecting passes on counterattacks. He's also better at being a puck distributor in offensive set ups, particularly in powerplay situations.

Unless you're talking about guys like Makar and Hughes, it's not weird for defensemen to go on dry spells. Especially on a team like this that struggles with consistent finishing. So you're taking a commendably solid last 8 games for Lacombe and stacking it up against a dry spell for Zellweger to make sweeping generalizations about who is better at what.

If both guys play the next 5 games and Zellweger gets 6 points while Lacombe gets 1 point, does Zellweger get the crown back or something? Is that how you're looking at this?

LaCombe actually gives the team a bit more versatility b/c he doesn't have to be sheltered via high OZ starts. Tonight's OZ start% is below.

LaCombe's season OZ Start is high b/c he was paired with Zell when Fowler got injured. Before being paired with Zell, LaCombe was around 43% OZ Start% (as of Nov 1st). LaCombe's offense did come to life after being paired with Zell, though.
