5-game Set: Review (Nov 29 - Dec 9th)

1733941926754.png

Based upon our SoS pattern of being the "Best of the Worst", I projected the Ducks to go 2-3-0 (4 pts). We went 1-3-1 (3 pts). I didn't think we would lose to Montreal, tbh. If Dostal didn't misplay the puck behind the net, then we win 2-1.

Speaking of scoring, the Ducks have gone into a serious drought. Against above-.500 teams, we are inept at scoring. Against like teams like us, both opponents took us to OT and we split the difference. After beating Seattle 5-2 on Nov 27th before this 5-game set, I was hoping to create more separation between us the the sub-.500 teams. We are struggling once again.

The PK unit has slipped again. The previous 5-game set (Nov 18-27th), the PK went 13 for 13, or 100% PK efficiency. This recent 5-game set (Nov 29-Dec 9th), the PK went 10 for 13, or 76.9% PK efficiency. A 76.9% PK eff would ranking atop the bottom third of the league at 24th overall. We gave up a PK goal against in both sub-.500 team games. Another piece of evidence we are not separating ourselves from sub.-500 teams.

Injury Front
Nov 25th: Carlsson injury (missed 6 games and counting) ... Seen skating
Dec 4th: Zegras injury (missed 2 games and counting) ... searching for a 2nd opinion

5-game Set: SoS Preview (Dec 11 - Dec 20)

1733942458182.png

SoS Breakdown
Teams vs above-.500: 3
Teams at .500: 1
Teams sub-.500: 1

We have been good against .500 and sub-.500 teams. With the added context that we're 4-0-2 (8 pts) on the road recently, maybe that helps redirect our course back to earning more points against .500 and sub-.500 teams and create that separation again.

5-game set projection for Dec 11 - Dec 20: 2-3-0 (4 pts).

The last six games on the road:
Oct 29 at NY Islanders: Ducks 3, NYI 1
Oct 31 at Pitt: Ducks 1, Pitt 2 (OTL)
Nov 18 at Dallas: Ducks 4, Dallas 2
Nov 19 at Chicago: Ducks 3, Chicago 2
Nov 27 at Seattle: Ducks 5, Seattle 2
Dec 9 at Montreal: Ducks 2, Montreal 3 (SOL)

Are the Ducks "Road Warriors" this season?

This season
Home Record: 5-9-1 (11 pts), 0.367 Pts %
Away Record: 5-3-3 (13 pts), 0.590 Pts %

Last season: Total
Home Record: 12-26-3 (27 pts), 0.329 Pts %
Away Record: 15-24-2 (32 pts), 0.390 Pts %

Last season: Games set 1- 26
Home Record: 5-9-0 (10 pts), 0.357 Pts %
Away Record: 5-7-0 (10 pts), 0.417 Pts %

Apparently, we are "Road Warriors" to start both seasons under Cronin. Let's hope we can maintain that edge a little bit longer for this season. The problem with that optimism is the Ducks have been in a downward spiral in their last five games, including the away game against Montreal. We still earned a point in the loss to the Habs.
