This place used to be happier.

They just played one of their best games of the year against their division rival. Their best player scored twice and is on an absolute heater.

Reading this thread you would have no idea.

Argue the direction of the year all you want, but we should enjoy the wins like today.
Played one of their best periods but hardly their best game. Would hardly call winning by 2 goals when the team had 6 separate 2 on 1 chances a good thing. Go and rewatch them shesterkin was not tested. In the 3rd the coach predictably made them play to hold the lead as opposed to generating more offense and if the Rangers played any better they surely would have capitalized on it.

If that’s what you took away from the game, I see why you’re not happy.

I choose to look at it a different way.

Was ready to be happy when they drafted Matvei.

Then they showed it the same old BS with Briere, Jones, and Torts.

Making the playoffs would be great development experience for a young team, especially if they sell at the TDL. They're not making the playoffs unless
1) TK and Sanheim continue to play like top 1st line/1st pair players
2) Young players step up, from Frost and Farabee to York and Andrae
3) The goalies continue to develop

If all this happens, and they're 95+ point team being carried by players from 22-28 years old, then I don't really worry about draft position. At that point they just need to keep adding young talent, and hit on a couple outplaying expectations.

The wildcard is Zavragin, if he continues to play like an elite KHL goalie prospect, by the team he comes over in 2027 they should be a solid PO team - add an elite goal tender to the mix and anything is possible.

2027?

That's like...almost 2 years away.

2 years....I think I have seen that before. Things are always going to be better in 2 years.

As for this year...still tied for last in the league in regulation wins. We are feasting on gimmick hockey points.

okay ummm, good for you? How happy you gonna be with that 1st rd exit that most teams coached by John are known for.
it's a step in the right direction, what are expecting, making the playoffs and winning the cup the same time? how is that fair on the young players? heck it took the lightning 7 seven years in the playoffs to finally win a championship, nothing is easy in sports.

Actually I am not expecting them to win the cup, hence the reference to Johns futility as a coach. I actually like when the team wins, but that to me was not a fun win. It made evident the lack of scoring talent currently on the team, and highlighted the dino coach tactics that almost cost them the regulation win.

And what do you mean a step in the right direction? Cause this more closely aligns the mire of mediocrity the team has been stuck in for the better part of 10 years. A step in the right direction would be the accumulation of more talent, a coach with a modern strategy, and a front office that cares more about winning than optics. I would be more excited if the team winning now meant they had a chance at playoffs/cup, but I really dont think thats likely. If it took the Lightning, a team that was good for a long time before winning,7 years to win how long do you think its gonna take the Flyers, a team who has been bad for a long time, to win anything?

Sure wins are nice. However beating a team like the Rags, who for various reasons are on the verge of falling apart, is nothing to get excited about. There are too many players that are under performing; the PP is a clown show; the Russians in the nets are way too shaky. The club’s play is consistently inconsistent. Sooner or later the puck isn’t going to be bouncing the Flyers way as it has for the last week and a half.
