Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XVII

I get it, but at the same time when you are trying to win games someone like Brown probably is a better option.

These players are also not hurting their trade value by being protected in Providence rather than possibly exposed in the NHL level..

I am sure in Wahlstrom case they are hoping that his second year after injury can be better, but hard to get him to there.

I will assume that changes will happen after the deadline. One would hope that if they can't find someone to take Brazeau they will waive him, he has been so awful in 2025, i can't image there is a team that would give a late pick for him. But he needs to be gone
 
I would love to retain Geekie and Zacha but at the end of the day, neither should be playing on a 1st line with Pasta.

Pasta is a f***ing 55-60 goals a year guy with the right centermen. That's not Geekie and Zacha. Pasta more than not is playing playmaker on that line and setting Geekie up for backdoor tap ins.

Keep one of Geekie/Zacha as the LW and go get a center thats going help Pasta put up 110-120 points, while putting up 70-80 themselves. If the LW on that top line hits 50 points, I'd be happy. But having the LW and C be 40 point guys does not drive enough offence.

Lindholm sure as shit needs to be the 2C next season. We're paying him accordingly to do so.

Does Carlo+Freddy+Lysell get you Byfield?

Great idea. I like thought of packaging one of Geekie or Zacha in a deal to go out and get a true top liner.
 
Sounds like Vancouver wants a 1st + "NHL ready prospects" for Boeser. Anyone interested in doing 2026 1st + Lysell (+ another small add if VAN is looking for a sweetener) for Boeser.

That’s too much. Boeser is a huge gamble. He is a free agent. He is over paid. Lysell and a first for maybe 5-10 goals. Not even close to worth it.

Not at all. We shouldn’t be buying like that right now on UFAs. We need to keep the cupboard stocked, and it’s already low so our 1st and Lysell have primo value to us. Other trade chips would be a different story. Boeser might not resign with us if we trade, but he also could easily be available July 1 “for free”. Best to wait on moving our picks or prospects unless you are looking at someone a little more surefire/talented/younger/true top line. That said, I hope we grab him in the summer, and I think he could do well opposite of Pasta.

This is going to come off as me being an asshole, but that is not at all my intention.

Patrick Brown has played 13 games over the prior two years for the Bruins. His line over this period: 0-1-1 +/- -4 PIM 4. There is no way calling up Patrick Brown is accretive to winning.

It's clear I have a different definition of "trying to win" than the front office, but Merk/Lysell/Farinacci all have some level of ceiling above those of Brown/Tufte/Jones/ et al., whereas those players have low floors and ceilings.

This is also a team that has given an extended leash and very patient look to Mason Lohrei while he literally learns to be an NHL defenseman on the job (which I am all for). Admittedly, some of that was due to injury, but I would expect a similar level of rope to be given to one of these young forwards, all with some level of promise.

Stunned to find his stats extremely underwhelming. Had expected far more of his career. Yet to play 82 games in any season, major durability concerns.

Pass. Similar to Bennett. Pass.

If they really wanted the player I would rather they pursue him in free agency.

He's a pending UFA who will more than likely if he doesn't re-up with nucks, is heading to Minnesota.

So so true

The infatuation with career AHLers like Brown is beyond frustrating

not only are they not accretive to winning they are actually are subtraction by addition:
-they get 6-7 minutes of ice time, meaning the Bs play with a short bench most of the game
-when they do hit the ice it's dump it in, short shift and change, hoping to do no harm..and in doing so having little to any impact
-real forward prospects in Providence ( of which there are several) shake their heads and wonder why they should bother since the call-ups have no correlation to potential

And so it goes

Not as good as the first year the bruins got him but he still putting up points and he is hard to play against. Zacha is far better I agree. zacha is on what I consider one of the best contracts in the nhl. Coyle isn’t underpaid and he isn’t overpaid.

Just curious here.Coyle scored 25 last year and don't play next to Pastrnak at all so why can't Zacha score even 20? Not saying anyone is better was just wondering why he cant score goals .

They give Lohrei a chance, because while he may be trick or treat out there you see that there are clear NHL skills. He is clearly the best PP QB and best offensive defenseman they have, and it's not even close

They've given Merkulov looks, and he has shown nothing other than he can't play Center at this level. Maybe he'll get a longer look, but he looks like a classic 4A player

Lysell hasn't shown any consistency at the AHL level, and honestly his offense is highly overrated on the board, his offensive upside seems like maybe Connor Garland if everything goes well
