Frederic for Hoglander?

Vancouver gets another ex-Bruin, which seems to be working out well for them, he provides some size and was a strong 5on5 player last year in the regular season but especially in the playoffs. Maybe they convince Frederic to stay.

Boston takes a chance on a 23 year old Hoglander and saves $1.3m against the cap right now, which means they can make a deal for a bigger fish much sooner than the deadline. Hoglander is a bit of a risk because he's signed to a 3 year $9m contract starting next year so if he comes here and stinks it's a negative value contract. But if he comes here and provides speed, creativity and gives the 3rd line some of what it had when Hall was on it, then it could be a win/win.

Above, we see the top two teams in PDO last season. PDO measures expected goals/goals allowed vs. actual. Vancouver just ran wild over both goals scored and allowed while Boston's goalies went berserk. Both teams had fringe players going wild, but Vancouver's went totally nuts.

This season, both the Canucks and the Bruins are right next to each other in PDO, but dead center in the middle:

Boston really has no one running wild with the points. We've all noticed that. The Canucks are being carried by...Connor Garland. For real. That's something that's happening. Oddly enough, Hoggsie isn't producing like last season, mostly because he isn't shooting 20%, he and half his teammates doing so was a major reason why Vancouver had a high PDO last season. When he's shooting his usual 10%, he's a fringe 3rd liner everyone here would think Sweeney is gigantic dickhead for signing to $3m at medium term.

There are better spots in the pond to go fishing for 30 goals over three seasons with $9m worth of bait.

Than why would you even suggest that trade, Garland maybe, but not at that cost.

I think the D is good enough that if you could grab another Wotherspoon level guy you could run without Carlo. I’m a Peeke fan. But you gotta aim higher than a (very good) third line winger. But that’s a lot of moving parts which is always hard to actually pull off.

If we zoom out further still, we're talking about a young, skilled, quick, tenacious player already in the NHL. Kid plays with courage, goes to the dirty areas, hits, he has dynamic hands, he has great velocity on his shot... A kid who put up 11 points in 7 World Junior games for Sweden. He put up 32 points in 45 AHL games. 27 points in 56 NHL games his first year in the NHL. He had the 24 goal season with the high shooting pct last year.

Isn't this the exact type of player Bruins fans have been lamenting we don't have enough of? A skilled prospect who's already shown he can play in the NHL.

Kakko's draft position makes him look more enticing than what he brings to the ice IMO.

That perfect, proven player who is available at a good price and doesn't take much cap space? Doesn't exist.

You can argue whether or not Hoglander is the best option out there or not. Nothing stated in the post you quoted was unfair. But the mact of the fatter is, whoever you're getting at this point is going to have similar strikes against them.

If we want to see the team improved, at some point, you gotta take a swing. Hoglander to me has as good of a chance to succeed in Boston as he does anywhere. Our Captain is the perfect person to help lead him to success.

And if it works, you have a middle-six wing at a decent price locked up for the next three seasons.

Hoglander spent 2/3 of last season playing with Pettersson, Miller, and Boeser, players who were very close to or well above PPG players, which led to him having a career year. Frederic's production has always come from playing on the 3rd line.

So while I like Hoglander's game and potential, I think if the Bruins move Frederic, the Bruins should get more in return especially since what Frederic brings is coveted around the league. He's the Bruins most valuable moveable asset, so they should do their best to get the best return possible, hopefully a top 6 winger.

Correct, and production makes him even more less enticing. One of biggest bitches at times, is many fans think Carlo type D- man grow on trees.
