Should of traded him for Hanifan last season instead of hoping one day he becomes a Hanifan.

Should of, could of, would of, unfortunately
Bruins spend enough cap space as it is on their defense without getting anything out of their defensemen playing defense in the first place.

One thing these games made clearly evident Boston needs at least one more (most likely two) top 6 playmaking forward(s) with finish ... hopefully Sweeney can figure something out.

Personally, I don't want him trading our first unless it is for a young under 27 top-six-potential playmaking forward with finish that's buried in some other team's depth behind established players ... absolutely no rentals or older downhill side players of any sort.

Even that won’t make this team a contender. I just hope Sweeney and Neely aren’t as dumb as I think they are, and actually believe this team has the potential to actually win in the playoffs…heck, they’ll be hard pressed just to make the playoffs. They have 2 guys at most who are top 6 level guys on a Stanley cup contending team. Seriously overpaid third line guys all over the place. 2 goalies both making too much. Carlo and Zadorov and Lindholm on defence all make more than they’re worth. Well same with McAvoy but I still believe he’s a number 1 guy. Lohrei is a trainwreck defensively. This team is so far from a contender. And they have nothing in their system to truly make a splash. Not even a ripple. Full tear down is required for this team to eventually become a contender again. It’s been a great run though. But it’s time to admit it’s over.

Exactly, if it was productive we wouldn't care. But instead it appears McAvoy is part of the problem (I've felt this way for awhile).

Which makes scratching Lohrei with Hampus still out even more mind-boggling. He's the only option to replace McAvoy on the PP.

It's like continuing to use Elias in the bumper. Zero goals scored via this strategy. But they keep running it out there.

He's clean up the team defensively going back to a more passive forecheck and collapsing zone D. Other than that, Sacco hasn't improved anything else. PP still a mess. Questionable line-up decisions and way too much mixing and matching on the fly. Troubling to hear Marchand already talking about sloppiness in practices. Watching him on the bench he doesn't come across as a coach that has grabbed this group by the throat, the change from Monty to Sacco has been minimal really. Even before Monty got fired they were shutting down bad offenses and getting lit up by good ones.
Bruin D. Stop making sense! BTW some Great posting! I like that you don’t shy away from controversy and you back it up!

Coyle plus minus has been much better the last 10 games, he also has 7 goals, the 8 mil center has 3 goals, and is a minus 3 plus minus. Has any ever stop to think that they 3 players playing top 6 , and are really 3rd liners. That is not a winning recipe. Not to let the D off the hook, but any chance that some of their problem could be the forwards they are playing. This team offensively challenged, but you want to bitch about McAvoy on the PP, that's legit how the rest of that PP, it sucked last year and sucks even more this year, and they spent 8 mil trying bolter it, and all they have done, is put their finger in the dike. Tell Donnie it is still leaking.
Some have been advocating Lindholm to the 3rd and Coyle 2nd. This could help.

I remember another similar one punch on Lane Pederson when he cross-checked Bergeron...only guy on the team to stick up for our captain and he's done it multiple times for other teammates throughout the years.

I'll give Frederic credit this is his one redeeming quality. I can't deny he does stick up for his teammates.

I've never liked him as a player, but this season thus far IMO reveal that he's a bit of a douchebag IMO. If he could start producing like he did the past two years and the Bruins started winning consistently I could go back to ignoring what I don't like about him.

Still surprised folk here were okay paying unproven goalie up to $10 mil. Especially a goalie that went public as he did. Crazyville. Im more surprised Sweeney gave him the contract. Totally blowhard Neely influenced.
They should have let other teams talk with him and then trade him for the highest return. They could have signed Stolarz for much less and had far better goaltending.

I don't think just Kreider fixes this team lol.
Nope they need a few pieces coming in and a new full time coach not named Sacco.

I just don’t understand anyone not wanting to make a Kreider deal. The guy stands in front and deflects pucks, jams away at rebounds and can skate. He’s a big body and he’s not afraid to use it. He is the answer to our terrible power play and would give our offense a huge, much-needed boost. He’s a very, very big difference maker.

We would need to dump a useless player or two (Coyle, Carlo, etc) to make numbers work, but I would like to think if Kreider is available that Sweeney is trying.

If Swayman starts to actually earn some of his ridiculous money, we are only Kreider away from becoming elite again. He would make every forward on this team better immediately. This team is not as bad as it seems right now. It just needs a kick in the collective ass with a trade for instant offense and attitude.
Depends what they want back, we can no longer be trading top picks 1st and 2nd , if they want to clear cap like they did with Trouba, maybe we can work something out or if they are willing to make a hockey trade, otherwise not trading top picks for a soon to be 34 year old.

For those clamouring for big tall physical team. Woop!!! This might be the first year the bruins fail to make the playoffs in a very very long time. Brutal.
It’s not the big tall physical guys hurting them. The big tall Coyle, Carlo and Mcavoy are the ones hurting them. The new big physical guys Kastelic and Zadorov are far from the problem.

We have too many stiffs like Geekie and Brazzeau who are also big, playing top six roles that they are unsuited for along with over-paid, underperforming stiffs like Pasta, Coyle, Lindholm, etc. There’s plenty of problems but it’s not the tall, physical additions.

I still think Kreider solves a LOT of problems. The problem is getting them to take back a big salary. We certainly have plenty of those to choose from. Too bad they’ve all been exposed as frauds. (Pasta, Mcavoy, Coyle, Lindholm, Swayman, etc,)

I don’t know how you simultaneously say we’re a Kreider away from being a legit contender while saying Pasta, McAvoy, and Swayman are frauds.

IDK, both guys are tied for the league lead in PIMs and they aren't all fighting majors. Taking lots of minor penalties typically is a problem.

I've been hoping a top 6 winger would fix things, it won't. Fire Sweeney and start selling. Get the kind of team they thought they were building, big tough, physical. Mix in scoring and some speed and a better goalie than Swayman and start the retooling, JJ will never allow for a full rebuild.

They are not winning so f g try something new!!!

And for the love of god … go with 5 forwards pp1.

Ghieshhh why is this so f g hard to understand!!!!!

Lastly send Swayman to Providence. He wont be claimed and message needs to be sent to ego head.

Poitras never should have been sent down when you have Johnson on this team. At this point put him with Pasta and Marchand. Still not convinced Lysell deserves it because of his attitude.

Man, this is still just not a fun product to watch.

Give me a heavy dose of the kids. This team continues to prove they cant keep pace and cant score.

Sweeney has himself a big predicament after spending to the cap this offseason only to see this be the results thus far.

The only changes have been Zadorov and Kastelic.

Maybe we blame the proper players like the ones who get paid to score the ones who get paid to not let the other guys score?

Bigger culprits, Kastelic and Zadorov

or

Pasta, Lindholm, Lindholm injury. McAvoy, 2 third liners in the top 6, Coyle, Carlo and the goaltending?

Trade idea

Zadorov (5mil) and Tyler Johnson (.775k) for DeBrusk (5.5mil)

You raise some valid concerns.

The last time Boston picked in the top ten of the draft was 2011 9ov and 2010 2ov. Since then their highest pick has been 13ov 2015. (I won't go there, enough has already been siad). For more than a decade they have not had a top ten pick, and many of those years in between they traded their first pick in an attempt to prolong their competitiveness (combined with other reasons). It is amazing they lasted as long as they have.

The lack of top end home grown talent is a direct reflection upon where they have drafted for so long. Pastrnak 25ov 2014 and Marchand 3rd round 2006 are he last impact forwards currently on the team. (Poitras may or may not , still to be seen, but their is hope).

They have relied primary on the careers of the now departed, trades & FA, and hitting on low round draft picks to sustain the competitiveness of the team.

The problem is, for better or for worse, this management team will never allow a full rebuild. They will attempt to make corrections and build the team in the off-season. Along with possibly a different coach depending on who is available at that time. But team top six (3) talent is the issue and most troubling concern.

If this team is somehow in the running for a possible playoff spot come the end of February / early March in all likelihood they will try to add to the roster.

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. The only thing they have that they won't mind trading at that point would be their first round pick. That is not meant to say they shouldn't trade pending FAs on their roster or under-performers, but if they are fighting for a playoff spot they won't want futures back. It will have to be at least a player they feel is equal or better and maybe a pick in return. Otherwise, they will hold on to those players. This team needs an Esposito type trade (both times) but in today's NHL that almost never happens in season ... look to the off season.

They have to be very smart what they do with the first round pick. The pick, unless a complete collapse, will most likely be somewhere in the middle of the first round. Whomever they may draft, unless they get extremely lucky, will most likely be several years away from Boston, if ever.

Which is why I stated earlier, if they trade that pick it better be for someone under 27 already in they NHL who is or has legitimate six talent / potential, not another 3rd or 4th liner they want to make believe or hope can play in the top six. They definitely should not trade it for an aging downhill 30 plus veteran again in hopes of prolonging their playoff qualifying another year only to be one and done.

However, with the history of this team, they will try to retool on the fly. It may be very frustrating and mediocre for a while. This year may be what we thought last year was going to be.
