Instead of a trade, (not that I am against one ) the obvious answer seems to be fixing the PP.

Most PP opportunity in league, 2d lowest success.

Even if we were ranked in the middle, that would make a huge difference.

Fire whoever is in charge, bring in an outsider with new ideas cuz this same old crap ain't working
They tried fixing the PP, off season they brought in a 8 mil dollar third line center, that was going to help the PP.

KPD in today’s Globe:

“Take this to the bank: If rumors lead to reality and the beleaguered Rangers put Chris Kreider up for trade, he would sign off on a deal that would send him home to the Bruins. Among the roadblocks: the $6.5 million cap hit on Kreider’s deal that still has 2¾ seasons to go. To make room for him, the Bruins would need to move out roughly $5.5 million in cap money, be it in roster bodies sent to New York or elsewhere …”
Nah.

They don't have to move out that much.

Nah.

Remaining cap hit: 4,671,875
Bruins cap space: 763,980
Need to move: 3,907,885
Oesterle/McLaughlin to Prov: 557,031 each

Need to find an additional 2,793,833.

As of 5pm yesterday.

They could make the money work, but do they have the assets to aquire Kreider?

That's the million dollar question.

The true reality of this team is that the roster best sets up as this.

Zacha-X-Pastrnak
X-Lindholm-X
Marchand-Coyle-X
Beecher-Kastelic-Koepke
X

Those are some really big holes with pretty much no cap space and very few valuable tradable assists to fill them.

Right now we are filling them with Frederic, Geekie, Brazeau and Johnson who have been average or below.

We refuse to use any prospects with offensive upside Poitras, Lysell, Merkulov. At the same time these guys probably aren’t going to succeed in the spots right now anyway.

This all adds up to a .500 team. Don Sweeney has been in control of this team for over 10 years so he is responsible for where this team stands. He has big job to pull a Houdini to get the train back on track and save his job. Get to work!

3 yrs of Kreider would just add to what is going on here. Him and the coach don’t get along?

Ok again, other than order, which is actually the first and second lines? It’s now how Providence works, or has ever worked really. Did Poitras get sent down to play third line AHL minutes?
AHL doesn't share time on ice stats but from last night's game we can see shots on goal.

Divver's 1st line listed- 10 shots on goal
Divver's 2nd line listed- 5 shots on goal
Divver's 3rd line listed- 3 shots on goal
Divver's 4th line listed- 4 shots on goal

Ok again, , what evidence do you have the Lysell got 1st line minutes last night?

I mean they roll the lines at 5 on 5 pretty evenly and Poitras and Lysell are on the PP. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Fair enough. The point that he hasn't earned a call up remains though.

What does earning a call-up look like to you? I would suggest that if the big club wasn't so hurting for any kind of offense, it would be easier to keep Lysell down and set some sort of production bar before he gets called. As it stands, they need to try to get help from somewhere, and blowing up the current roster isn't feasible or an option. Even making a trade work to get one guy that can help is not the simplest of things: Boston has a bunch of junk right now and the ones other teams might want in a trade are players they can ill-afford to let go of right now. So why not Lysell? If it doesn't work, you lose nothing you weren't going to lose anyway.

I hear that. You want a player to force it. I do think there is a point where the poor play of the parent club might force it. Rather than Lysell taking a job, the players at the NHL level give it away. Wouldn’t say Brazeau or Lorhei forced it either, but the team gave them chances and they ran with them enough to stick around.

His stat line seems to be generally back on track since the 10th after an uninspired start (which maybe I am more forgiving than most of a 21 year old having a pout after being sent down). As long as he doesn’t tailspin, you gotta give him an extended look at some point. I’m just not sure he is learning anymore at the AHL level right now. Maybe the reality check of playing against the best competition is what he needs. Or maybe that’s just looking at the situation with too much desperation and hope. But only one way to find out.

He is tied for 8th on PRO(with Patrick Brown) in pts/g. For an offense only player, I'd want him to be closer to 1.0 ppg. He's at .5 ppg.

What you lose by promoting a guy who is tied for 205th in the AHL in pts? You lose part of the culture that the team likes to say they have. Look, if the team drops out of the playoff race, absolutely at that point go ahead. But I thought there were people here who didn't want to trade for prospects on other teams that wanted to be gifted spots... and now we are gifting spots? Makes little sense.

Also, there was a great article a couple years ago, I think in the Athletic about teams calling up players from the AHL, giving them games, then sending them back down, then calling them up etc. And the study "showed" that kind of thing hurts development, that guys that dominate a level before called up to the next do better. It's not 100% true all the time, but I think in general it's the better way to handle prospects.

GIfting? If the guys sucks he goes back. They just did it with Merk. Anyway, I am not one of the ones you are talking about in terms of gifting spots for other team's prospects. I'm in favor of any kind of offensive help right now. As for the culture- how's that working out for them? The culture *should* be whatever wins hockey games, not some mystical bullshit that they aren't living up to anyway. They are out of the playoffs right now. Lysell may not be any sort of answer, but they need some help scoring and don't have a lot of realistic options.

Carlo ,Coyle and a second pick. Rangers can send back one of their fourth rounders.

Bruins bring up Sweezey to take Carlo's spot

If we're being honest with ourselves they gift spots every year, generally to vets, who get outplayed in camp/preseason and are given an insane amount of leash.

I'm not saying Lysell has earned it, but you have a guy like Merk for example who I'd argue earned a spot with his play in the AHL, who is then given 3 games in the bottom 6 while they force feed a guy like Geekie top 6 minutes. What message does that send exactly to the guys in the AHL? What does that provide to the culture of the team?
