Its not. His job is to prepare them to play. This is what the other team will do, this is how we need to counter it, etc.

Its not the Coach’s job to make sure the players are “up” for the game. That they are engaged. That’s on THEM. As Don Draper said “that’s what the money is for”.

Fear and respect play parts. Pens did not have a fear or respect for us. They did not back up or give us any real estate. Knew we couldn't beat them physically or structurally. Don't feel we're physically there yet to do the things we want.

Fun fact. Howden at 6'3 200 lbs has been laid on his ass more than Zuke's whole career. A hobbit can stay on his feet and take hits better.

The most frustrating thing, is that what is supposed to be one of the last seasons of the rebuild, the team as a whole has regressed to the point where they have no identity at all. What team, across the entire league, would look at a game against NYR on the calendar and do anything but shrug?

Someone should have at least put an elbow in his mouth. He needs to play concerned. He skated around with complete impunity; no fear. He has too much talent to allow him to not have some fear. Kids these days are soft as butter; there is value to roughing top players up.

I don't think it's about being "up." There just isn't a plan so they have to get a feel for the game. That requires the other team pushing the play.
