I remember that year. The whole thing was a joke; Johnson led all rookies in points for MOST of the season, and he ended up... fourth. BTW, Patrick Elias had more votes for the Calder that year, despite having fewer points. That was when I realized there is a blatant bias against giving Leafs any kind of hardware whatsoever. It was why I was expecting an excuse not to give it to Matthews his rookie season (something like "DEFENSE IS HARDER" or some shit like that; they used that one on Iginla, after all).

Fun fact; the excuse for Johnson was "Well, he played with Mats Sundin all year!". Samsonov spent his entire rookie season playing with Jason Allison, who was good for 90 points at the time. Apparently, though, that is a Leaf-only rule. I expect we're going to hear this one for Bunting this year, too.
