I don't know how you guys can do moral victories. Losing to kings has put me in such a bad mood!

You know well enough it's always the unhealthy 9+/9 chihuahuas with 2 teeth left that make the most noise from the owner's lap. Only to urinate themselves once the going gets tough.
Yes, reminiscent of the same size idiot femaledrunken Detroit fan who verbally accosted me for loudly complaining about some idiot throwing a bunch of mini-octopus on the ice DURING PLAY because “IT’S A TRADITION!!!”

Overall, the Ducks are playing better. This type of game used to overwhelm the team, but they carried the play today. I am glad to see a lot of the players have finally woken up. Their lack of finish is a real issue and they need to limit Gudas's minutes.

A top 6 scoring forward and top 4 RD would really balance the team. The same needs Verbeek outlined last season.... that he still hasn't addressed.... The coaching staff has made some changes and many of the players have stepped up. They all have a lot to prove but I think they all deserve a trade to help boost the team. It's time.

Probably one of our better games of the season, but couldn't score unfortunately. It's at least nice to see the team trend in the right direction in the last handful of games with how they have played.

Zellweger taking a big leap forward the last little while has helped our game tremendously, been a long time since we've had such an offensive threat on the backend. Really helps us generate scoring chances through his skating.

For all the talk of how terrible Killorn looks, Gudas has looked a lot worse IMO. He looks slow and seems to get overpowered on a regular basis (such as for the Kings second goal), just a complete negative out there when he's suppose to be anchoring our 2nd pairing.

Also Cronin needs to figure something out with the 4th line, our top 3 lines aren't good enough that we can afford to have a 4th line playing 6 minutes a game. Hopefully when McGinn comes back, we can send Johnston to the AHL and have an actual function 4th line. Thought it was disappointing Colangelo seemed dangerous on most shifts, but he gets stapled to the bench and only plays 6 minutes, should have been moved up the line up IMO.

Oh well, at least the games have been watchable again.

Not a bad game. Ducks have been competitive in the last few weeks. Always good to see.

Would’ve liked to see more urgency in the third, seemed to wait till the very last second to turn it on and had a great chance because of it.

Yes. Exactly what Verbeek wanted to address would be perfect for this team. He needs to get out there and get it. We can play but need more help. Let’s give these guys some more help.

The McTavish hate is getting to be a lot. He’s super young and I didn’t find him bad at all this game. I think he’s moving faster but he still needs to catch up to the game speed a bit upstairs. He’s a gamer. Not the type of kid you worry about. If he wasn’t trying then I’d be worried.
He’s also getting bigger. It can take time to adjust to a different body frame than what you are use to.

Two really hard things to find. Practically everyone in the league is looking for top 4 RD, but the good ones tend not to get moved. If one did, you can bet there'd be a ton of teams in on it, and contenders usually will overpay.

Hopefully as things progress, Helleson and Luneau fill the RD need. Odds are it'll be a better solution than any RD likely to be available in a trade.

Gonna be hard to sign a FA scorer if the cap goes up and we're competing with playoff teams. Trading might be doable if someone becomes available ... we're actually in a good position if that happens. Our system depth means we could do something like our likely high 1st + a D prospect pretty comfortably without drastically hurting our future. But of course, someone trading a guy like that is usually doing it for a reason (flawed player, oversized contract, etc.).

Helleson is a major surprise bright spot so far this year where our kids are so hit and miss. Hopefully he keeps it up.
I’m not sure if there’s any data to back it up but I feel like any time we are getting hemmed in our zone and can’t get it out, as soon as he’s able to get the puck, he’s able to make a play to get it out of the zone. He’s thriving here, and I don’t think he should be the first down when Fowler comes back.

Helleson has some solid offensive hockey IQ thay is very surprising too.

I’ll be very bummed if he comes out of the lineup

The ability to play within structure as opposed to thriving on chaos.

For projected NHL depth players, it's not just about what you can do on the ice, but how exploitable your flaws are.

You don't have to be a star AHL dman to be a good NHL one. And you can be a good AHLer but have too many issues to play a front line role in the NHL, and lack the other parts of the game to be a support player.

I think back to Beauchemin being almost completely overlooked as a prospect in the minors. Might be a similar situation here. We'll see.

I agree for the most part but on the second Kings goal I feel the blame falls on him just as much as Zegras. It wasn’t a great pass by Z but Mac didn’t even try to reach for it. That’s not exactly a “gamer” mentality if you ask me.

I’ve been defending Mac for a while now but he needs to increase his effort level and start thinking the game a little quicker out there.
