NHL and IIHF need an agreement confirming the participation of NHL players in the 2026 Olympics

Bettman wish to have a 2028 World Cup in Europe, with eight teams. This would need some sort of agreement from the IIHF, on the financial aspect of course, but I’m also wondering if the IIHF will be asking for the tournament to be played within the international rule? AKA : would fights be allowed in 2028?

I can’t see a 2028 World Cup cautionned by the international federation allowing fights.

Does he want the whole thing in Europe or half of it? I lean towards half and we get that 'Euros fly to Europe midseason' bullshit. FTR.. I think it should all be in North America.

Brainstorming: an 8-team World Cup in 2028 could have 2 groups of 4, with one group in Europe.

Have 2 games per day for 6 days (European game 1st, North American game 2nd), making sure to include the 3-day President’s Day long weekend.

Then cross over SemiFinals in North America.
