Not disagreeing but enough flubs were made that I would stop short of that conclusion.
Personnel for this tourney are always questioned but this year, the player omissions were pretty glaring.
Cameron made odd decisions that have been noted here, but the vibe of the guy just seemed off. Seemed uninspired and uninspiring.
Other programs have improved, definitely, but Canada faces the ‘thrown together’ challenge every year. Sometimes the talent and other aspects click, and we get gold, and sometimes they don’t and we get zilch.

The not funny part is that EVERYBODY AND THEIR MOTHER know the IIHF reffing. We all do. Yet, they will bring guys like Beaudoin and Gibson who play a tough game...and lament when they are called for something they usually wouldn't get called on. THEY WILL! It's the IIHF. Role players and tough players are NOT players for this type of tournament. Is that too hard to figure out?

This team should have been built around Sennecke upfront and Schaeffer in the back end (Really tough break for Schaeffer btw, a bigger bummer than the loss for me tbh). I just don't get why he wasn't selected when he should have been The guy. McKenna is a fantastic talent, but he's very young still whereas Sennecke will be 19 in a few weeks. He has been on a meteoric rise and and has stepped up when asked for. Just such a head scratching move man
Yakemchuck should have been there and Parehk too, especially when Schaeffer was out.
The real strength of the Canadian pool of players is in my opinion density of talent. The best three eligible Canadian forwards might not be better than the best three eligible American (or even Sweden, Finnish) players, but the 8th to 12th are. That's where the selection process failed, they overated how their top 6 forwards would fare against their counterparts and took responsible bottom 6 players to bring experience and stability in order to protect the lead they thought their top players would get them
Hockey Canada (and maybe the consensus of fans and media?) need to acknowledge that, in the recent few years, the CHL is somewhat of a disadvantage for the WJC. If Ryan Leonard had been a Canadian CHL player, he might be on the Caps right now and not eligible to play. Since the NCAA has a longer runway than the CHL and the players can chose their programs, NHL teams are more willing to leave them there rather to take control of their development sooner. As such, the best "older" U-20 players are more likely to be on team USA than on team Canada
They also need to stop making their mind in the summer, just invite plenty of players. The second camp should be where most of the decisions are made

Could you imagine if Cowan was a Habs pick? Leafs fans were so smug hyping him up but got a real cold shower instead haha. Maybe first line duties were just too much for him.

They didn't take the right players.. they left home some of the best talent they had access to. They took Cataford, Pinelli, Howe, etc. who are unlikely to ever be NHLers to leave at home a guy who is going top 4 in this draft, a guy who went top 3 last draft, and two defenseman who went in the top 12 of last years draft.. and they struggled to score a goal while those elite offensive talents sat at home.
Now, that doesn't mean other nations haven't caught up to us, they have.. but we shot ourselves in the foot and just assumed because we are Canada we can take whoever we want, show up, not practice and still win. We can't.
But I won't excuse Hockey Canada, they haven't updated goaltending development since Giguere was winning a cup with Anaheim.

He would have been better further down the lineup on an energy line. Like Fraser Minten last year, Cowan is not a top line player & yet Hockey Canada has forced these two players onto the team as if they were. They were given #1 duties and leadership roles, and both completely failed to deliver on those expectations. TML must be paying HC expenses or something. Ultimately, in both cases, TC was eliminated in QF.
Minten now looks like a bottom 6 player for the Leafs. 3rd/4th liner along with pk duties. Beck is having a much more productive year.

Yeah, that team was just weirdly built, I don't get it. Haven't been watching the fallout on TSN, but are they going after Team Canada's roster choices or blaming the refs?
Yeah, he would have been great on Canada's 3rd or 4th line. He's not a superstar, but still a good prospect and should have been put in the right position to contribute

Between him and Cameron's stubbornness and ego, it's easy to see why things got so bad.
Not a fan of ''role players'' in a best on best tournament. Bring the most gifted guys every time. As if a Crosby or McDavid couldn't play PK or defend a lead. They might not do it in their respective clubs but not because they can't but because a club season is long and grueling and you want your best to stay fresh. Sure bring maybe 1 D and 1 forward who are the "responsible" kind but not more than that.
Needless to say I do not like that approach at all. I've seen it backfire so many times in different team sports. Galaxy brain syndrome.

They build a shit rosters, the coach is an incompetent who didn't even bother with practices and they are acting like they did the best they could...
Sound like the Leafs.

Coach saying he would take the same decisions and he has no regrets is just dumb ego.

They do all have their unofficial teams, but only the four constituent nations of the UK (so England, Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland) + Gibraltar compete in UEFA/FIFA-competitions as it's mostly for historic reasons as football originates from the UK and the first international matches were really just England v Scotland. In the Olympics they have to compete as team GB though, as the IOC only allows effectively sovereign nations (it's a bit murky) to join as members
Watched a bit of the game yesterday, hadn’t watched any previous this year as the team didn’t appeal to me. I’ve never seen a flatter WJC team before. This first two periods were atrocious and then, when the team finally wakes up and dominates, the coach challenges a clear no goal and ends up taking a penalty with 10 minutes left!? That honestly was one of the stupidest decisions I’ve seen by a coach in a while. This team wasn’t gonna win anything, it was completely flawed

It reminds me of how of how the NHL started out in Montreal with an Irish team, an English team and a Scotish team. Then they eventually added the Canadiens as a "French" team. Just imagine if all these teams had remained intact during all these years and there would still be here today. (Let's say the Fighting Leprechauns, the Reds and the Whiskey Drinkers)
