Hockey Canada is still stuck in the 90s and 2000s where often times all they needed to do was just show up to medal.

I’m not that patriotic personally, so I’ve never really cheered for them at WJCs, I tend to just watch Habs prospects more than anything.

But I’m not surprised by the results given the prospects left at home.

You reap what you sow I suppose.

Pretty sure he just yelled “COLE EISERMAN! COLE EISERMAN” to the Canadian bench

What's worse is they downgraded with role players so they could play specific roles like kill penalties, but our PK sucks. Lol

Our PP sucks, too.

If you want role players, you bring Cristall & Parekh and let them lead PP1, and you bring Misa to help lead the PK. I would have brought Misa instead of Martone.

One player who doesn't get enough criticism is Luchanko. I expected way more out of him.

In the end, Canada might very well win or medal..it won't change the fact that mistakes were made. It's a World Junior tournament. Where to this day, Canada did, do and will produce more NHL'ers than every other country combined. And then some. But them not winning or at the very least not medal ESPECIALLY without Russia...it's either a sign of they ALL came down playing their worst..or mistakes were made by management.

But a Canada team that would have brought everybody they should....would have won that gold medal. Easily? Don' t know...but would not have surprised me. The crazy idea that Canada needs to bring role players at that level is just f***ing dumb.

I'm tired of Hockey Canada's arrogance. The whole "We have so many talent, we'll put a few aside to make it a "Team" ". Get over yourselves, it's the least impressive Team Canada I had ever seen. In Vancouver they had four talented lines rolling. They chose to give some of the guys like Mike Richard and Jonathan Toews some grinding roles. (and they ended up being the best line)

I hate how people say that Cameron has done nothing. He has literally benched a top 3 pick from this year who is nearly tops in OHL scoring for bad performances. This group is puke inducing. Not on the coach at all. They don't deserve jack****. I would have picked Parekh and Misa for better offense but it's on the kids to do better.

Edit : At this point, have a meeting with everyone from HC and the team and tell the underperforming 06s and 07s they are not coming back next if this **** keeps happening. Have to bring in some accountability.

I haven't watched Canada play yet, but how do you figure it's not on Cameron at all when he's the one that picked these kids. He could easily of picked a better roster.

OK let's say 3 or 4 guys were undeserving and we replace them (Pinelli/Howe/Gibson/Price/etc.) with Parekh/Cristall/Misa/Yakemchuk/Hage/etc. It's still 85% of the roster not up to par. Players have to gain some accountability or they will be in for a rough ride in the pros.

It's more then 3 or 4 but even still you can't say what the team would look like and how they would respond if you had 3 or 4 better players. Just look at how the Habs look once Laine got into the lineup.

Players need accountability but your logic is flawed to say the guy that picked these guys isn't at fault AT ALL. It would be different if people weren't going nuts when they announced the roster and said WTF is this?

Cameron made his bed, now he has to lay in it.

I found that back in the day, the Canadian goaltending allowed them to dominate this tournament. The World caught up a while ago and now has surpassed them. Even Latvia has a quality kid in net now. One of the areas the country needs to review the development of younger kids.

Edit: Based on the numbers I ran Dec 1st on the goaltenders who had played in the NHL this season there were more Euro born goaltenders (41) then Canada (21) and the US (17) combined.

Who else? The goalies were basically consensus. Dickinson and Bonk who were consensus picks for defenseman have played like ****. Cowan and Martone haven't been good either and they were consensus choices. While Pinelli who was the coaches personal pick has played pretty good. Cataford and Gibson who weren't consensus picks have been very good too. At the end of the day, if you have great offensive talent like the players named above and they play like trash it has to be on them.

the makeup of the roster is shit, that's why so many were freaking out when the roster was named. Lots of poor decisions. This team to me does not have great offensive talent, they could have but opted not to, that top 6 they dressed last night just isn't very impressive imo.

Canada has fallen pretty far in terms of netminding. I guess there’s a lot more parity in the position but still… It’s shocking that goaltending has become a liability for us now.

Not in this tournament though. George may be the best goaltender in the tournament

I thought the management team picked the players.

So a disciple of Marc Bergevin's School of Hockey Management. The players have to figure it out by themselves we'll do jack shit about it.

I'd replace him by Sylvain Lefebvre if i could. And any regular here knows how much i hate Sylvain Lefebvre as a coach.

It feels like an MB moment. Loves guys in his mold. one guy overpaid and committed to them and Cameron over plays them. Feels like smartest man in room, just like MB was in in mtl.

Canada deserves quick elimination.
Is the US passing Canada in developing better young players?
This team isn't playing well and the US may win the tourny but the US developing better young players - well I have two names. Bedard and Celebrini. Both are eligible to play. They're in the NHL. Isn't that the point of development to go to the NHL

The cost of living crisis (mod) in Canada is going to show its ugly head in our programs sooner then later. There’s higher then normal politics involved in hockey now as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if the US and possibly other countries surpass us in developing players soon.

The cost of hockey and living has gone up. People are less able, and less willing to spend the time and effort to keep their kids in hockey. The travel involved in even not so competitive leagues is nuts. Backyard rinks are not staying frozen in a lot of places, either.
