Best part of the Austrian goal was everyone skating to the kid who assisted rather than one who scored the goal. That's how you know you are popular teammate and the other guy probably isn't

Really impressed with the way Austria played with the lead. Absolutely no panic on defense, time and time and time again they just skated the puck out of their zone with a controlled breakout. Of course maybe one would have liked them to dominate the possession more, especially looking at the standings but hey, it got the job done.

GOOO NORWAY!!!!!

An underrated part of my life is that I've actually always been a huge Norway fan. I think Novo Nordisk is a great company, and I love chocolate, pastries, and played with LEGOs a bit as a child.
Lego is Danish. I would let it slide otherwise, but for the purposes of the Norway - Denmark game, that just creates unnecessary confusion. Replace it with "I love fueling my car with oil products."

Meanwhile, the main intrigue for me is can Brandsegg-Nygård score a point. While I defended him initially, he has been a huge disappointment.

Edit: I googled Novo Nordisk and it's also Danish. Now I'm just confused.

It's a joke haha, maybe a poorly crafted joke. All of those things are things the Danish are known for. Acting the classic American.

It should be good at at least get an eye roll from our Scandinavian friends.

Hm, Lego is the only thing on that list I associate Denmark with. But that might be my ignorance. Now that you mention it, when in one scene of Sopranos they said "I'm gonna grab some Danishes" I had to google the hell that meant as well.

Norway put Eriksen, Aarom Olsen and Nygaard together. Still nothing.

Steinbergs in goal, they have been rotating keepers which could pay off a bit. Lundberg has started every game.

So it's between Denmark and Austria.

Norway with a major flop and Brandsegg-Nygaard with 0 points in 4 games. Wow.

Denmark beat Austria 7-1 back in November.

Only about half of that roster made the Championship one and they had a kid who isn't even one of the 3 selected to this team in goal. On the Danish side, it was basically their A team minus Molgaard, only 2 kids from that roster didn't make the final one.

So probably no major conclusions should be drawn other than if you take most of Austria's leading players away from them they don't stack up against Denmark too well.

Norway gave me hope with that 50+ SOG performance yesterday but they are just not that good, are they?
Bad coaching, and poor goalkeeping compared to other teams.

It dosen't help to have a decent player material if they don't have good system to play together in.
A coach that have coaching a HockeyEttan team as his biggest merit. We need some new coaching resources for next years tournament.

Fantastic o-zone rotations resulting in a Slovenian goal. They have played pretty good hockey and deserve more than they have got so far.

2-0 hosts after 1.

Convenient scape goats as ever but goalkeeping is at respectable .915 Sv% and Norway scored 1 goal in their 2 losses so how can you say it has to do with anything. With better goaltending they could have won both those games 0,5 - 0?

On the coaching side the problems might be bigger but even then, leading players arrived day before the tournament, there is only so much coaching that can be done since you basically don't have on ice practices during these championships due to the insane workload.

I truly don't know why don't you point the finger at the players which would be well deserved and cerainly the biggest factor. Norwegian "stars" have been absolutely putrid even compared to the most humble expectations.

3-0.. just a dominant performance so far.

Make that 4 on a horrible turnover and line change... France are just killing themselves. 4-0.

Golicic jumped in to finish a 3 on 1.

It hasn't been good enough from many players.
It has been to much of one player alone trying to skate in to the opponents zone alone with the puck. That worked ok against weaker opponents like Hungary and Slovenia. Weak coaching and not a good enough system. No clear gameplan

There has not been any good gameplan on how to attack and defend. Against decent opponents like Denmark and Austria, they need to have a good gameplan on how to attack and defend.
Austria and Denmark have had goalkeeping svs. on 97% and 100% against Norway, then you got a very good chanche to win games. Match winning goalies. We have't had a game winning goalie on 95%+ like them, even if we had more shots by good margin.

It's somewhat ridiculous to see both goalies of the main competitors as some phenoms rather than keep your top players responsible for a complete lack of execution. And to even further convolute it into the "our goaltending hasn't been good enough".

Anyway, here is the performance of all the drafted players after 4 games:

Gregor BiberAustria1+3, 4 points
Vasili ZelenovAustria1+3, 4 points
Jan GolicicSlovenia1+2, 3 points
Ludvig LaftonNorway1+2, 3 points
Oscar Fisker MølgaardDenmark0+3, 3 points
Stian SolbergNorway1+0, 1 point
Michael Brandsegg-NygårdNorway0+0, 0 points

Is there really anything else to say? Even Ludvig Lafton, with the very same coach, teammates and opposing goalies falls perfectly in line with the rest of the group. 2 Norwegian first-rounders, meanwhile, with an absolute stinker of a performance.

And I was really sympathetic towards them at the start, like Solberg had to play 3 games in 3 days with travel from Sweden to Slovenia in between. Again, no practices with the team, no nothing. The game against Austria was really bad for him but it was understandable. However, the way they still perform towards the end of the tournament, after the rest day and very manageable game against Hungary, I'm lost for words. Especially about Nygard, he has even less of an excuse and even more terrible of a stat line.

Well, the warning signs were all over the place even before the tournament started in my opinion.
In the exhibition tournament played in November in St.Pölten Austria we got beaten by Austria and Denmark in overtime. I guess the coaching staff thought that as soon as Brandsegg and Solberg arrived on the roster then everything would be just fine :baghead:

This was a bad effort, piss poor effort by our U20 team. The Norwegian Ice Hockey Federation should definitely do an evaluation about the U20 coaching staff. I seen all the games on live stream, and there is no plan and structure on how the team is playing what so ever.
Yes, the lack of our good 2004 generation is very noticeable, but man... looking at our roster for this tournament the coaching staff should definitively have done a better job with these players.

Only positives from this tournament: Avram Olsen and Mikkel Eriksen.

I hope we get new coaching staff, but the economy of the Norwegian Ice Hockey Federation is now more worse ever before. Even a fu**ing soccer club in the Norwegian second division has a better economy than the Norwegian Ice Hockey Federation. It’s beyond a f*** joke! So I won’t get my hopes up for that.
