I'd take Akey over Allen tbh. I didn't think he was good in either game.
Agreed, both should be on the cut list.

The forward group is going to be tricky, most of the bubbles guys never stood out in either a good or bad way in my opinion.

A lot will come down to is Cameron making the cuts, or is HC making the cuts? Who does each feel more comfortable with.

Akey was one of the guys sat for the first game, which were all locks.

Seems like the Akey cut thing is personal. He was solid today and has definitely earned a spot.

The right side should be Bonk, Akey, Gibson/Allen. I don't know how to decide after the first 2.

Left side is a whole different story.

After watching both games the forwards are tough. Beaudoin looked decent, Sennecke looked dominant first game, second was good. Wood wasn't the best either game but was solid. I think whoever gets cut from the forwards could have easily slid in given the competition.

Funny that nhl.com got Mackenna's age wrong, claiming he'd be a 16 year-old on this team. I know he doesn't turn 17 for a week but regardless, he'd be 17 for the tournament and would be a year older than for example Crosby (87') was at the 04' tournament, or McDavid (97') was at the 14' tournament. He will be 07' at the 25' tournament, clearly 17.

Maybe a little confusing because he isn't eligible for the draft until 2026 (like most actual16 year old's he has 2 drafts post-tournament until he is eligible, but that's cause he's a late birthday).

All I'm saying he isn't in that category of a 16 year old like those elite players were. Almost every team/year has a 17 year-old who makes it, this year no different. A 16 year-old is a rarity. In terms of eligibility he is a 17 year old just like Schaffer, or Bedard was in 23'

Oh, them's fightin' words!

In what way is he not like those other guys? He's put up ridiculous numbers at every level, breaking some Canadian scoring records along the way. Did you not see him nearly singlehandedly bring Canada back from the brink to beat the US at the U18? He's now leading the entire CHL in scoring, and yes, he's doing that while still just 16. What more is he supposed to do?

I think he's just saying the guys going to be 17 during the tournament but he's being grouped in with the 16 year olds because of his double draft underage status. Nothing about his play

McDavid is barely different. You want to make a huge distinction between McKenna (turns 17 in December) and McDavid (turns 17 in January, a few weeks after the tournament?

The late invites were a bit of a charade. I don't think sennecke could have done much of anything to make this squad, they had their team in mind.

Oof Cristall was cut too. It very much looks like they wanted specific roles for each line.

Wait they changed the roster rules to 22 skaters but you could only dress 20 per game right? I forgot that rule

Tanner Howe and Luca Pinelli in over Matthew Wood (one of the only scorers outside of Celebrini worth shit last year) Cristall and Sennecke is pretty fkin ridiculous.

Anything less than gold is an incompetent, unfathomable failure.

With the release of the training camp roster, I think the roster will be:

McKenna-Ritchie-Nadeau
Cowan-Rehkopf-Martone
Barkey-Catton-Yager
Cristall-Luchanko-Wood
Cataford

Molendyk-Gibson
Dickinson-Bonk
Mynio-Brunicke
Schaefer

Ratzlaff
Bjarnason
George
After the cuts, I hope to see the following lines:

McKenna-Catton-Nadeau
Rekhopf-Yager-Martone
Cowan-Luchanko-Gauthier
Barkey-Beaudoin-Cataford
Howe, Pinelli

Molendyk-Gibson
Dickinson-Bonk
Schaefer-Akey
Mynio, Price

Ivankovic
George
Bjarnason

I’m glad they avoided taking Allen, seems like a hockey Canada favourite that has never lived up to expectations at these events.

Leaving off Sennecke is misjudged, especially because it seems like they want Howe to play a top 6 role, which I highly disagree with

Barkey was cut. Your roster doesn't have Ritchie.
