GDT: 2025 Playoffs - Second Round

Definitely feeling a bit uneasy right now.

I do think both Metro teams can beat them and I think Dallas can beat them. But not feeling real confident with Edmonton, Vegas or Winnipeg against them.

Holy Rant!
MacFarland takes the cake for the dumbest trade in the NHL in the past decade and he keeps getting smacked in the face with it.

Rantanen has 2 back to back hat tricks while MacFarland is figuring out more assets to use to fill the 2x position.

Ooo the announcer kiss of death. “Carolina has not given up a power play goal yet.”

I just don't understand this take.

It sounds like you're saying, "They had to find a way to keep Rantanen, no matter what it cost. Everything else makes you the dumbest ever."

But that's no basis for such an absolutest statement in a salary cap era.

When you've already got several players making between 9-13 million, finding a way to keep another guy docked to earn 12-14 million for 6+ years is about the most improbable path you can take.

It's gotta be safest to go on the basis that if it would have made any economical sense for that franchise moving forward, they'd have kept Rantanen in the fold.

If it doesn't, YOU HAVE to move him, even if you suffer in the short-term knowing that he gave a far better chance to be successful in the playoffs.

The actual trade to Carolina was a pretty doggone good one having made the decision that you won't be able to pay him.

Florida better get the next goal or they’re in a heap of trouble. Bobrov not being stellar

Why not pay your 2nd best forward - a 100 point and 40/50 goal scorer?

McFarland jacked up their cap situation all on his own. He’s made poor UFA signings and poor trades all on his own.

The most current information is that COL/CAR were talking that trade for months. And CAR admitted it was a wing and prayer on an extension after signing him. Also, COL barely talked to Ratannen about an extension, he flat out had the rug pulled out from underneath him when traded. As a player, that’s part of the game, so be it.

So, in the end COL lacked control over where Ratananen would be going, they got a nice player in Necas (never gonna be a winner), that once his contract is up probably will command $8-10M (good luck with that). And Ratnannen ends up on your direct opponent for the next 8 years.

That is terrible. MacFarland has closed COLs Cup window. It’s over.

I just wish Barzal was healthy and MacFarland asked about Barzal, cartwheels in the streets. Bye bye. (And here’s the difference, Lou knows he’s signing Ratananen or doesn’t make the trade).
