I really don't understand the Arenado infatuation. He's on a downward trend, still has 3 years on that contract, as well as deferred money through 2041.

Even if STL eats a big amount of that, it's not worth trading anything of value, IE Casas, for that.

Better off taking the chance with Bregman on a 4 year deal if his market completely crashes.

Arenado's still an elite defender, and the Sox have some pitchers who force a lot of ground balls. In that way, it makes some sense. My worry is that the bat speed is going quickly, and you'd eventually end up with a $20 million/year late inning defensive replacement.

I think if Bregman were willing to sign a 4-year deal, he'd already be a member of the Red Sox.

You can get defensive help without signing up to 3/74 of active contract and 20/45 of deferred money on a rapidly declining player

They offered Bregman 3 years, he wants at least 5. Meet in the middle.

His market is seemingly non-existent at this point.

Seriously, this f***ing franchise traded Mookie Betts under the bullshit guise of not wanting to pay guys in their 30s, and theyre considering Bregman and Arrenado?

Whole thing reeks of "they're names and we can pretend we got signature stars."

Unserious organization. Again, whole goal is to build an 88-win team and hope to make a Wild Card. If things go right an 88-win team can win 96 and then they can say "see!" Meanwhile when they finish last when things go bad they'll talk about how unlucky they are.

John Henry of 2004 would f***ing hate John Henry of 2025.

review of what I been reading & seeing about Sox

Devers is the third baseman for now. Cora said it and dribs & drabs indicate Devers preference/desire/expectation

Story is the SS for now. Cora loves him. He’s the defacto captain & he’s still elite defensively. Rafaela can play SS & Mayer is close maybe by All Star game. He’s seriously injury prone so Rafaela & Mayer need to be ready

Casas has been rumored all over but Breslow seemed to downplay and Casas at his many charity stops & the Fenway Winter thing said he was told to not believe what is out there

Arenado has been rumored but he’s a 3B and still elite fielder but hitting is now league average and trending down - and his contract is expensive. The rumors are all generated by a Cardinals account and hard to take serious. Arenado would force a Devers positional move so seems less believable.

Bregman appears to want to be here on minimum a 5 year deal. Cora wants him, Buehler wants him, but he sits and waits.

Bregman would play 2B and cause Star prospect Kristian Campbell a 2B long term candidate to be blocked - unless after a year Bregman moves to 3B & Devers to DH or first base- if Casas moved in a deal and Vlady Guerrero Jr isn’t in it.

Mayer would need to find a spot or traded. They are moving him around this year to add positional experience at 3B & 2B.

Logic indicates he’s Story replacement.

If you like homegrown you want
Casas 1B
Campbell 2B
Mayer SS
Devers 3B

But to get creative
Guerrero would be a spectacular add
Bregman would be a nice addition but it has ramifications to Campbell at least short term.
Arenado just messes up a lot don’t see it

My preference

Bregman 4 years plays 2B one year then moves to 3B with Devers to DH; Campbell earns 2B; and Mayer is ready by 2026 to play SS

If Guerrero would sign multi extension here I would trade Mayer & Casas

Guerrero 1B
Campbell 2B
Story SS
Devers 3B

They have multiple good to very good SS in system
