All smiles at Alex Bregman’s Red Sox introduction, even if the feel-good story has flaws - The Boston Globe

From article

“This was so big a number of Sox stars gathered at the back of the tent to listen to their new teammate/leader (not Rafael Devers, who was seen walking by the group, presumably to get to his car).”

Devers being Devers

Let him just hit - Cora will be perfect for Raffy

I get what they are doing

As for SD ~ I drafted Michael King as a reliever a few years ago not realizing he would be converted to a starter and had such great stuff

He has high character from all things verifiable

I’d take him over just about anyone

Love him even more than Cease

Has he thought about not being a butcher at 3B?

The only player worse than him defensively over the last 5 years is Castellanos

Just very frustrating. He’s not good there, he gets injured over there, and he refuses to give it up. I appreciate his competitiveness but you have to look in the mirror at some point

If he took his position seriously and showed he wanted to be better defensively, he would of showed up to Story's camp. Or practice at his position. Or lose weight to get more flexible.

Instead he's done nothing but gain weight and now he's got a sore shoulder and isn't throwing yet.

He just wants to hit homers and that's not sustainable.

I hope he gets it together.

Is it possible Raffy's the only one who didn't see a move off of 3B coming?

Who the f*** is in this guy's ear telling him that he can play the position at an acceptable level?
Probably his camp lol

He's gotten worse over the years and doesn't seem like he wants to idk get better?

Lose weight. Get agile again and work hard. I love Raffy but my goodness, idk if things were lost in translation or what but he came off like a huge dick today.

Well then he's surrounded himself with yes men who are telling him what he wants to hear instead of what he needs to hear.

Something that annoys me with Devers position is that he seems to think DH is worst possible outcome, almost like invalidating the position on the team. Does he remember who DHd the Red Sox for 14 years? Having someone DH with his hitting caliber makes the team that much better.

David Ortiz should have a chat with him

Plus he is consistently making the longest throw on the team while his hitting is suffering due to defensive related injuries. If he wanted a legacy he should be 100% focusing on hitting and everyone would be happy.

Up until now I have loved Devers and found very little to get on him for. I understand the pride factor and thinking you are a 3B but this isn't a case where a guy is one year away from free agency and his future earnings are at stake by being "demoted" to DH. He got his money. This is going to be very disappointing if he continues down this path. Wasn't he upset with the team at recent deadlines for not improving the team? He can't have it both ways. They signed a proven player like Bregman. If your best infield is Bregman/Story/Campbell/Casas with Devers at DH then that's what they should do.

Might also help if he could learn the language after being here for so long but I have mentioned that a few times now. The added layer of a translator never helps in these situations.

I mean, this is the kind of shit you lock down with your own player before announcing the Bregman signing, but everything with this organization is a clown show now, so....

Not to say Devers is right, but you have this fight in private first, not in public after.
That's true but are we sure this didn't already happen behind the scenes and now he's just venting in public? If he already told them no and they signed Bregman anyway I really don't blame the team for that. You make moves that will make your team better. If Devers can't get on board with that maybe they should tell him he's free to find a team that will take him on and let him play 3rd base. Seems highly unlikely any team would go for that.

I really don't like Alex Cora. Not even a little bit surprised he's needlessly throwing fuel on the fire because he doesn't care to actually manage one of his best players. He needs to respond to his petulant slugger with his own petulance. Be a f***ing grownup, Alex.

Tough to tell for sure because everything is going through a translator on Raffy's side, but I have no reason to give the Boston Red Sox the benefit of the doubt.
