Always has been very intriguing to me, not surprising to see this late breakout. His skating is high end and just needed development time physically.

Posting because we always seem to target these guys year after year, and it's an interesting thread regardless.

At the moment, we don't have a 2nd round pick. If this left shot, OFD continues this pace, then we probably don't have any darts to take a shot at him as he could be a 2nd round talent.

He's in his third year of eligibility, so I'm thinking that may push him more into the mid rounds but it's too early to be certain. This draft doesn't seem deep so maybe he is a top 2 rounder

Another 1+1 for Mrtka to give him 5 points in his first 7 WHL games, all coming in the last two games. He's this draft's unicorn in terms of having huge size and talent. It's hard to fathom that the Czechs felt they had 9 better Dmen to invite for WJC camp

Has he bumped up to first overall yet….

This draft kinda seems like it depends on who is drafting first
Yup. He is #1 for me. Especially when you consider he is so young. He is almost a 2026.
He has probably moved the most up people lists.

Can't wait to turn him into a good 2-way guy :sarcasm:

I remember watching him at the u18s and thinking his poise and skating reminded me of Sanderson, but Schaefer is starting to show a level of offensive flair that we didn't see from the former.

EP just came out with a new list.

Schaefer at #2.
They also love Jackson Smith. Have him at 6 and it sounds like they have him in the same tier at the top 5.

New sportsnet list as well
If the Ducks end up picking #4 cause of injuries I would be absolutely super happy with Martone at #4.
A top6 having Carlsson, Sennecke, Martone, Gauthier is just so skilled, fast and BIG.
I like the top4 in this draft but after that I'd consider trading the #5 or lower like you mentioned about trading the pick a page ago or two. McQueen at #5 seems to have the injury problems someone mentioned and I'd rather trade the pick for impact player.

Maybe team Czechia is upset he left Czechia in-season to go to NA?
