I certainly haven't been the biggest fan of Frondell around here, but I'm willing to watch more of the kid before I truly make up my mind. I'll try to catch a few of his Allsvenskan games soon.

Ask me at the end of season, but Desnoyers would probably be in front of Frondell on my list.

And imm not even thinking about Frondell’s knee injuries already. Like KK, like Galchenyuk, like Reinbacher. That alone is scary lol

Frondell is this year Ostlund/Dvorsky for McCagg.
Frondell was very well liked before the start of the season and then got injured and took some time before he played better. I don’t blame McCagg for gradually put Frondell back where he was seen at the very start of the season. Especially since he’s one of the only player you can be sure he will actually play center in the NHL.

Yes but it seems forced. Overall I find this draft very pale. It seems like Hagens or Schaefer are the only true game changer.

For me only Scheafer is truly gonna be elite. Then I like all of the other top guys but they all have some small question marks. The player I like to watch most is Bear, he’s close to that tier for me.

I’m all on board the Carter Bear bandwagon for this year.

Frondell could have that Elias Lindholm trajectory

Two way center with a great shot that can score

Not elite, I agree but could be a 35 goal scoring two way center

We would need to win a lottery to pass on Schaefer and if we did win a lottery to pass on Schaefer, it'd be to take Hagens, which is still getting a blue chip prospect at arguably our biggest need.
Just lost 9-2. Starting to think our biggest need is defence again. Hutson has clear limitations, Guhle is hurt every year, Mailloux stinks defensively, Reinbacher is an unknown. Can’t go wrong with either Schaefer or Hagens

You cannot go wrong with either one of them; so the idea of passing on Schaefer only exists in a scenario where we are taking Hagens.

Can't imagine about being that upset in that situation but this is the Habs board.

Not that we should be drafting by need, but a 5'10 centerman is not the biggest need unless he's a Bedard-type player. There is no way you can be comfortable with this defence moving forward.

Therefore, I'd argue that Schaefer is not only a bigger need but has more of a case of being BPA. You are right in that we'd need to win a lottery spot for him though, but I'm still not confident we'd take him when we should.

I do think the ideal move is to find a centre good enough to make Suzuki our 2C.
I think upgrading on a guy like Guhle who in my books is more of a 2nd pairing dman, Hutson who is still questionable if he can be a #1 dman, and Reinbacher who's a mystery box at this point is way more of a pressing issue than upgrading on a top 15-20 C in the league.

That’s fair. I don’t think Suzuki is Top 15-20 though. He’s just outside that. I guess Hughes will have to decide how good Hage can be. If he thinks he’s a surefire 2C, then Schaefer should be automatic.

Who are the 20 centers you'd have ahead? Last time I asked someone they gave some outrageous names like RNH, Cozens and Lindholm as ahead of him which we can all surely agree that is complete nonsense. You probably won't win a cup with Suzuki as your best forward, but I've never seen a team's best forward consistently get such little support.

Moreover, what makes you think that Hagens, a guy not having a stellar year and not a consensus 1st OA, will be in that top 20 range?

I’m not going to name 20 centres because I don’t think the draft thread is the place for it. But the best we can hope Suzuki can be is a Bergeron/ROR level of centre because that’s been done before. And I don’t even think he’s that level. Certainly not defensively.

So what makes Hagens part of that 20 centre group?

I feel like we can emulate Dallas' Hintz/Johnston top 6 C combo (yes I know Duchene is playing lights out but he was a complete ghost in the playoffs, think we can both agree Hintz/Johnston is better than him). Like I said though, Hintz/Johnston won't be a teams best forward on a cup contender. I'd love to gamble on Schaefer who is far more likely to have a Heiskanen-impact than anyone in our blue line.

Who’s our Roope Hintz though ?

Hintz is probably one of the most underrated player in the league
