2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Who should we pick 3rd overall (assuming Schaefer and Misa are gone)?

I mean as a whole the league is just simply not as good. The top teams are just as good, but day in and day out, the players as a whole are just weaker.

It plays out in the # of draft picks, etc.
This is true and why so many Ontario kids go to the Q after they bomb out in the OHL or can’t get an OHL team to give them a look.

Musto close your eyes

Frondell brings high-end skill and a complete 200-foot game and fills Chicago’s need for a strong two-way pivot to pair with Connor Bedard, who may end up as a long-term winger in the NHL.
Pronman has no idea what he's talking about

Both mocks have Frondell to the Hawks.

All this really tells me is he is still high up the chart with folks who talk to organizations. Peters said exactly that:

There was a lot of surprising buzz around Frondell at U18s despite his performance at that tournament and a lot of NHL GMs were in attendance more to see him.

How do you expect anyone to take this seriously

I saw this earlier today with the following from Pronman:
"Frondell brings high-end skill and a complete 200-foot game and fills Chicago’s need for a strong two-way pivot to pair with Connor Bedard, who may end up as a long-term winger in the NHL".

If Pronman is typing this, he feels that Frondell can be a 1st line center. This is the same draft analyst that had Nazar at some thing like # 12 on the Hawks prospect list.

He had Demi slipping to Montreal at 5 last year pre-draft and nailed that take, boo hoo.

Here was your genius call at this time last year on the draft vote:

A lot of people voting Lev are probably Anaheim/Columbus/Montreal fans that somehow believe that by voting on this thread, it will lead to Demidov falling to them in real life

Who should we take seriously?

Martone needs elite game processing in the NHL. Lack of mobility, slow acceleration, and stiffness will limit him. He's a playmaker, even though people keep talking about his size.

I think the bolded is more of a concern than a general lack of mobility. Once he gets moving he's fine (not fast, not horribly slow) but yeah he definitely lacks explosiveness in his first few strides at the moment. At his size, I don't think that's much of an issue in the offensive zone but certainly off the rush it'll be a limiting factor.

Just don't see a playstyle that leads to being an NHL center. His playmaking and ice vision is average, he's physical in the corners and likes to hit, and is a one time guy and volume shooter. All of those things lead me to believe he is a wing.

Ok. I wouldn´t say his playmaking or ice vision is average. He has high IQ and reads game really well plus is reliable in both ends. That makes me believe he could become NHL center at some point.

There are no more power forwards in hockey that play like Eric Lindros anymore.
Umm.... there was one person ever who played power forward like Eric Lindros and that was Eric Lindros. I have never seen a single person push another person completely out the face-off dot then kick the puck towards his team mate.

Martone is not a power forward. With his size he should have been imposing his will on kids instead of being a perimeter player. His skating is bad, I question his work ethic, and I don't see a high hockey IQ.

The Hawks need to start drafting high IQ players and players who hate losing. Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, and Sharp were warriors. Martone isn't one of those.

From everything I heard, no NHL team has Hagens 1st oa and most, if not all, do not have him in their top 2. It is entirely possible that a team has Hagens #1 oa, but it seems unlikely from the information that is public.
If a team had Hagens first, why would they release it publicly?

If the islanders do, why would they say anything with the way this year's draft is?

Didn't want to resurrect this the last time you asked me sorry, but now it's a good time to reply

This isn't a playmaker that I see here. Sure he won't be a detriment to puck moving overall, and could even be nice in small area passing because of his physicality, but he's not the typical playmaker mold that you see usually.

What makes you say his playmaking is above average?

Btw I also think he's definitely more likely to be a wing, not coz of the playmaking necessarily (although that too) but because his strengths would come out there better. He already plays that way too.

Another clueless poster, but we already knew that about this one.

His skating is good for his size, he has incredible IQ, and he most definitely is not a perimeter player lol
