Well technically they did. They went to game 7 in the second round. That's the farthest they've been in ages.

I didn't realize that. Their future look bleak unless they trade Matthews now.

I can't believe Marner had the gall to scream at this teammates to wake up while he did absolutely nothing. He is absolute poison.

Even before this incident, because this isn't the first time, I've wondered what it must be like making ~1 mil or less and hearing the dude making near 11 mil screaming and crying at everyone else. Maybe if you weren't a greedy scumbag, you could have a 4-5 million dollar teammate in the place of that league minimum guy you're blaming.

Really strange way to think about this. Like, on every level

1) Marner is a 100pt scorer in the NHL. He’s a Canadian international. He’s going to get paid a very high wage regardless of the salary distribution among the rest of the team. That responsibility is on the GM, not the player.

2) “Yelling at teammates” is normal, happens all the time. It isn’t affected by take-home wage.

3) You’d find a way to criticise Marner if he didn’t try to lead his teammates (and often do)

4) An underperforming player still can try to encourage his teammates.

I wouldn't call getting back 22M in cap space nothing.

Marner is a perimeter player who needs to go and they need to use that money to acquire a true #1 dman which they have not had since Borje Salming. They simply have too many expensive forwards and very little skill on the back end and need to strike a better balance.

Treliving needs to move Rielly as well to make room for such a player as Rielly is a poor defender and has always been overrated offensively as he doesn't create much and has been a huge benefactor on 2nd assists with Marner and Mathews.

I personally hope Marner stays and they keep running these losers back every year.

If Marner is a périmètre player..Matthews is what?

Marner at least is better than him defensively...

So why Marner has all the critics....his numbers in playoffs are little bit better than Matthews

Cause he is 5.10?... and Mathews is a big soft 6.3...?

Really different. Habs have come back from being down in a series a good number of times. The Leafs are the team that comes back from a 3-1 deficit , takes a 3 goal lead with 10 left to play in the 3rd in game 7, and loses. Habs haven't done that .

We most recently didn't have the talent of this Leafs team but Jacques Martin and Therrien teams got to Eastern Conference finals and in 2021 we got to the Cup final. Leafs have always made play offs last 10 years but never won a 2nd round. You know, they won 2 total series in a decade and have lost about 9.

I mean no Cup for us in 32 years is awful. But the Leafs ?

Leafs are at a crossroads (for real this time).

Playoff performance aside, Matthews is an elite goal scorer and Nylander is a creative winger. Knies is a beauty and I’m sure he’ll stay with Toronto. Their defence isn’t as bad as the past, but they need a good first pass there. They’re all signed for a few years. Cowan looks to be a nice piece coming and I think Robertson can be a good middle-6 piece if given the opportunity.

However, they got no first picks next three years and no seconds next two. Marner and Tavares are potentially gone for nothing. Then you start factoring playoffs and they just lack leadership and grit. Guys like Domi aren’t grit… he’s a skid mark. Takes dumb penalties and is fake tough.

I know a few suggested Bennet, but I can’t see Bennet being too interested given how the team is currently constructed and what the future may hold.

While I won’t go out and say the Leafs should have had multiple cups the past 10 years, they definitely should have had one cup appearance (thinking the year it was 3-1 lol) and at least 3-4 ECF appearances.

They're both getting it equally. Matthews just always comes into the playoffs "hurt" so he's gotten the benefit of the doubt a few times but no one is anymore.

Agree on everything but point 4. You can encourage but if you start yelling all yell is gonna break loose. Team mates gonna be thinking oh brother this guy stinks in their heads.
