2025 NHL Draft Lottery (May 5)

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I would rather see a good franchise like Boston win the lottery then a POS one like Buffalo, or a team like the Rangers that get more help from UFAs and the lottery then anyone.

If not us I'd be fine with the Kraken or the Isles. All the teams in the lottery that have had long term sustained success like the Rangers/Pens/Bruins can suffer through some rough years as far as I'm concerned.

If I'm going down the list:
  1. San Jose: screw them because they're a division rival, but they still suck and this isn't a great draft. Whatever. Fine.
  2. Chicago: screw them completely, but winning the lottery might screw them worse than not winning it. So I hope they win it? I guess.
  3. Nashville: screw these diving divers and their ugly uniforms. I hope they're terrible for a long time.
  4. Philadelphia: screw that organization and their terrible fans. The way they treated Gauthier was abhorrent.
  5. Boston: screw Boston and everything about it. I hate that city and its entitled, smug fanbase.
  6. Seattle: Meh. Division rival but not threatening at this point. I'm good if they win the lottery.
  7. Buffalo: I know they're a trash organization, but I feel so bad for their fans. I hope they win the lottery.
  8. Anaheim: The good guys. It would be nice to win this one and then not be in the lottery again for a long, long time.
  9. Pittsburgh: These guys need to suffer in below average purgatory for a while. Plus we know they're going to win the lottery next year anyway.
  10. NY Islanders: Meh. Fine.
  11. NY Rangers: Pass.
  12. Everyone else: They can't get the 1OA, so whatever. Fine. Detroit is the only one I really object to, and even they're just kind of pitiable at this point.

I'd be upset if SJ retained the #1 overall b/c that would me the Ducks were the only #1 to not retain the top spot in the past five years under the two-draw lottery system. I'd also be just as upset if Chicago retained the #2 spot. A repeat of SJ-Chi going 1 and 2 seems highly improbable, but I wouldn't put it past the NHL. It would irk me if the NYR move up to #1 or #2 b/c of the 2019 and 2020 draft. I'd be pissed if we also moved down in the lottery!

The only good part in hindsight is that the 3 teams that moved the highest up in those (CHI/PHI/NYR) ended up with mediocre to busts. Patrick is a Bust, Dach very close to busting, Kakko medicore/bottom 6er.
However in this draft I don't think anyone can fumble the #2 overall pick Misa, he may end up being Canadian version of Auston Matthews who puts up big goal numbers from the center position while being good defensively.

Reading your list, when I got down to #5, it felt like you were about to say screw every other team in the league. You were on quite a roll, I was into it!
 
So are we sure if we were the second lottery winner that we wouldn't go to number 1 in the case of the Detroit example? Is there actually verbiage that states the second winner is explicitly for 2nd oa?
 
On sinkhole de mayo? Yeah, I'll be busy getting wasted.

I don't care to see Bettmann hold up a CGI newspaper and pretend he didn't just pick his favorite team to get the #1 pick.

Not that they ever are allowed to win it, but if they did win it, this feels like the year the Ducks would. The consensus #1 is a guy who’s very good but not quite elite-generational at Anaheim’s biggest positional strength and there’s no discernible difference between 3 and 8

If a team outside the top 11 wins the lottery’s first drawing, the team with the worst record simply retains 1OA. I don’t have a link but this is the way it has worked since they changed the rules.
