0% chance Grier picks him. That's the only thing I feel confident in.
He did draft Will Smith, a small centerman with a high-but-not-best-in-the-league type of ceiling and legit bust potential

It is the funniest outcome that has a non 0% chance of happening

Yeah, Isles fans seem fairly mixed on who they think they should take. They have a weird team, some good pieces, some okay prospects, but it sorta feels like they need everything?

I don’t expect Grier to galaxy brain this as he doesn’t really do that. I think Misa is clearly better than Frondell and the obvious choice if he wants a center. I can sorta see him going Martone? But I feel like GMs like having a lot of centers and with Smith and Misa, it gives us a lot of different combos to play with. Also, I’ve seen Misa compared to a worse Celebrini, and I mean, I don’t hate that.

Eklund - Celebrini - Chernyshov
Smith/Misa - Misa/Smith - Musty

I don’t hate it.

One way to think of Misa, is imagine at his prime he gives something similar to what we got from Celebrini this year. That's a guy you're thrilled to have as 2C, and I think he'd offer a bit more scoring, especially with prime Smith as his playmaking wing.

I'd definitely be targeting Marchment as a cap dump this summer and failing that either he or Tuch as free agents next year. Both 6'4, gritty, and talented. Let Cherny, Graf, Bystedt, and Musty battle it out for the 6th top six spot.

Granny and Tofolli can bring McKenna along on the third line. Kiddin'

As others have stated, Islander fans seem pretty split on taking a potential 1C or the potential 1D. It is very up in the air especially since they have no GM currently so it will be fascinating to see what they do. If I had to make a guess I'd say it is 70% chance they go Schaefer and 30% Misa/Hagens. In the end I am fairly confident this is an easy spot for Grier and he takes Schaefer/Misa (whoever the Islanders pass on). I trust in Grier that he is not putting all of his eggs in the basket that Smith will work out at C in the NHL and he will value Misa as BPA and the much more valuable position. You can never have enough good Centerman and Misa is a great insurance plan if Smith does not pan out at C. If Schaefer is there that is self explanatory.

Also minor detail but I remember hearing Misa is most likely is going to BU? And you know that is something Grier loves.

This is just objectively false. Both the US and Canada use birth year the separate players in youth hockey. So when talking years of development two players of the same birth year have the same years of development.

So even though the NHL has a September cutoff for I’m guessing legal reasons to not have minors at training camp Celebrini and Martone have had the exact same number of years of hockey development.
Bro, were talking Misa and Martone.

We already have Celebrini

Ironically enough, i think Misa's best comparison might be a Marleau type guy. Maybe not Olympian level but similar production/career arc.

Also hilarious non Sharks related side note, I think I remember reading somewhere that the Canucks and Red Wings were the teams that have moved down from the lottery in history or something like that. Somehow both managed to drop again as Utah hit the 1.5% chance of winning the lottery, just crazy!

If we can't get Schaefer I'm fine with any of Misa, Martone, Frondell or even Desnoyers if that's who our scouting staff thinks is the best player.

I'm just worried Misa might be more of what we already have in the top six but maybe I'm underrating his defensive and physical game.
Defense is a dirty word in the CHL for the most part. The little I watched of him I didn't really get the 200 foot player hype on him, but hopefully it's true since he's likely our guy.

Where Misa is not like guys we already have is his proclivity for playing offense close to the goal. Most of our guys are reluctant at best to drive the net. Won't have to worry about that with Misa. Also injects some more speed into our forward group which is sorely lacking.

Biggest knock I've seen on him is that he's probably only an okay passer.

Patrick Marleau was a disappointment of a 2nd overall pick. Yeah, I said it.

Marleau with a small size/speed downgrade is probably Misa's downside. I'd be annoyed if Misa ended up being another Patrick Marleau. Another Logan Couture would make me happy, but he could also be another Joe Sakic.

They don't but at the same time it's a good reminder you don't have to tank to benefit from the draft.

That's true. But it's also a good reminder that hoping to pull an Isles like this is not a strategy to consider. If you benefit from the lottery in this fashion it's a bonus, but if any GM attempted to bake this sort of scenario into their plan they should be fired on the spot, because it's the equivalent not being concerned with paying off your debts because you just went and bought a bunch of scratch tickets and one of them might hit big.

This is from a diehard Islanders fan, this makes it seem even more up in the air than I thought. This will be interesting, don’t give me hope for Schaefer haha

I enjoy that he made a fancy (but not too fancy) graphic to attempt to legitimize just pulling a bunch of random numbers out of his ass.

And that there's probably going to be a bunch of people that retweet that as if it has any sort of authority or relevance, thereby advancing the ongoing degradation of critical thinking and media literacy.

Islanders have goal scoring problems worse than the sharks you’d think they’d go after Misa. Their D is serviceable and doesn’t lose them the games as much as their inability to score goals does. But who knows sharks win regardless

Well, if there is a legit chance that the Isles will pick Misa, then Grier cannot trade down to 3 to target martone. He has to keep open the chance of getting schaefer...

Grier made it clear he's going BPA rather than need, position, or size, so that tends to make me think Misa. Annoying that no one asked him about Martone...

I'm coming around to be OK with Misa. I dont like his annual playoff failures, but we definitely need more top 6 forwards, so it does fill a clear future need. If they take him, I really hope they take D with 28 and 33, and then take Epperson with 53 to complete the saginaw line .:) I also like that Misa can play C or wing, so Celebrini-Misa-Cherny is a possible top line for the next decade, and Smith/Musty have looked like a nice pair too.

The other good news is that next year has Lin and Voerhoff in the top 3. So, the sharks can add that other top pair D next draft if they still stink this year.

All that said, unless grier starts building the D in earnest, it doesnt matter if we have the best forward lineup in the NHL, no team can score regularly playing offense 3 on 5 and without puck moving D who can feed the skilled forwards.

How can you have a worse offense then the team that scored the least amount of goals being 14 goals worse then 2nd worse

Eklund-Celebrini-Martone
Musty-Smith-Graf
Ostapchuk-Bystedt-Chernyshov

Musty and Bystedt may not pan out but we can fill those spots through trade or free agency and spend all of our premium picks over the next few years trying to find a #1 defenseman.

I agree as long as GMMG doesn't over-react and make stupid trades like (Eklund+ 2OA) for (NYI:1OA) That would be a very dumb trade (breaking up the CORE). Sharks just need to STAY where they are and let the chips fall and go for the BEST PLAYERS AVAILABLE.
