I'd rather pay a steeper price for an actual ace than pay a (still really) big price for a potential ace.

You know how much I hated the thought of this exact type of deal for Crochet, so you can imagine how I feel now that it happened while good options are still out there in free agency.

I'm so disgusted by this cheap rinky dink operation I think this was the straw that broke my Red Sox back.

I think Breslow is an unqualified dolt working for an uncaring conglomerate who cares about money more than wins. I defended them for years, including through giving away Mookie Betts. Last off-season turned me against ownership. This off-season is turning me against the whole organization.
I like - don't love - the trade.

Let's see what else happens. Let Bres cook.

I can totally agree with this. Get another top starter, another bat, a catcher, and some relievers, and I'd feel good about next season. But Crochet should really be the last move. He needed to be like the Sale acquisition, where you had everything else and just needed that top starter to make yourself a contender. This team really isn't close to that one.
There top 4 starters are all very young

They need an inning guy experienced

Relievers ?

Is Liam Hendricks going to be able to do it

What about Whitlock ? He’s got closer stuff but injury history

Fitts ?
Giolito ?

They know where they are at I certainly dont

They can field a lineup that was third in runs

Mayer, Anthony, Campbell probably are at least half season away

Could use a bat

Bregman to me makes them very strong

Hell baby
You have to admit that after bringing in a pitching coach who's devalued 4-seam fastballs, their first major acquisition being someone whose success is driven by his 4-seamer is very funny
The 4 seamer isn’t devalued, an average 4 seamer is devalued. They want their pitchers throwing their best pitches. They’re not gonna make him start throwing 50% sliders lol

A lot seems to be riding on a bunch of players who had career years being able to repeat them (hmm, what other local team have I heard that about?). It's basically that plus guys returning from injuries and elite prospects adjusting to the major leagues.

Maybe it all works out, but I'm skeptical. Feels like if they acquired Sale before 2016 instead of 2017. I'd like to see signs of a great team before making a big trade. They could have really copied that team if they gave Burnes a big contract first.

With any trade of this nature or elite UFA signing, you are taking a chance.
Prospects are prospects. I hate giving up Teel, but he was probably the one player the ChiSox wanted to make the deal happen.
We gave up three of our top 10 prospects, still have Anthony / Mayer and Campbell that should all make their debut sometime in 2025.

Meidroth was blocked at 2B, Grissom/Campbell and Hamilton are all ahead of him on our depth chart.
Montgomery is the wild card, will be interesting to watch him work his way up the ladder.
Not concerned about Wilkeman, Fitts, Dobbins and Sandlin are all ahead of him.
My only concern, is that I hope we sign him to an extension as he is only under control for two years.
He has the stuff of a #1 ace, was comparable to Snell last year.

Your first sentence is what is happening to the Bruins this year.

Devers last 53 games was garbage

Casas & Story played 89 of possible 364 games

Grissom missed 4 months

Duran ran into ground hit under 250 run 0 homers in Sept

Rafaela $ abreu both tailed off in Sept

Yoshida hurt

Pitchers all ran out of gas

They should be significantly better

I think the timing of the deal is part of what makes me so pessimistic for the remaining offseason plan.

They miss out on Fried and then less than 24-hours later they make the Crochet move. That feels very reactionary. Like maybe they had Arias or Bleis instead of Montgomery, checked in on Burnes after the Fried news (knowing he was too expensive), and then panicked and increased their offer to ensure they didn't miss out.

He mashes at Fenway!
Mashes at Fenway yet the Sox for some reason want to try and play him at second base which kinda defeats the purpose of signing the guy.

If you want him for the bat, there's couple names out there you could get for cheaper and wouldn't be trying to cram a square peg into a round hole

The least logical thing that I’ve seen reported is signing him to play 2B and leave Devers at 3B.

It’s entirely stupid and I don’t believe it for a second.

Boston Expos.

I hate getting another Chris Sale right after he cueked us and wins a Cy Young for another team while we pay him and after he stole a living for 5-6 years never pitching. Trade is OK Teel is the best one to move we have been good at catcher for years and know how to identify them.

Bregman with Devers at 1B/DH is solid but we are dumb and will just move him to 2B. If we are being cheap AF don't stop here try and pay someone to take Story.
