Why is Chicago even trading this kid then?Garrett Crochet is younger than Brayan Bello and Justin Slaten.
He's six months older than Big Dick Fitts.
Why is Chicago even trading this kid then?
Because they feel like they're several years away from competing, and by the time they're ready, he'll be a free agent. His value only drops the longer things play out.Why is Chicago even trading this kid then?
The thing that annoys me the most about this trade is they did it cause its cheap, moneywise. His cost is low and come time to pay him, if he does perform like an ace, they will let him walk.

If he develops into a true ace and is healthy, I can't see a team that just offered over 600 Million to a player letting him walk because of money.
I'm certainly not guaranteeing anything, but I really think they have turned the corner on being cheap.
I think getting a quality arm at this point in the "rebuild" via trade is prudent, especially if, as they have said, they're also looking to add another quality arm.
That I totally agree with. Even the reports of infighting between Kennedy and Breslow (not that I believe that reporting but still). The owner has fans by the balls and doesn't care about the team. The management team led by untouchable Sam Kennedy couldn't find a GM to take the job.You know what? I think this is a horribly run organization and I just don't care anymore.
I personally love the deal. They moved their #4 and #5 prospect for a 25 YO that pitched like an ace
Campbell/Mayer/Roman untouched? Yeah sign me the f*** up. You get the prospect depth they have so you can deal from it guys

The real person to blame for the Red Sox having to trade for a potential ace? Chaim Bloom. Fact not opinion.
I am not drinking that Koolaid yet. They could have had Fried and all they had to do was match according to reports. If he develops into a true ace and is healthy, I can't see a team that just offered over 600 Million to a player letting him walk because of money.

Where is the link - I don’t doubt you haven’t seen itI am not drinking that Koolaid yet. They could have had Fried and all they had to do was match according to reports.
Doesn’t feel like that all, I think you’re underselling Crochet. You have to give to get and this doesn’t seem excessive at allIt feels like a Dombrowski trade. It's not so much trading the prospects that's the issue, it's that you're not doing it efficiently.
Dombrowski could get away with it because he had the top payroll in baseball for half his tenure (and didn't have to deal with the obvious rebuild that was coming). As currently constructed, I don't think this team can afford a deal like this. I'd be happy to be wrong if they go out and spend a ton of money in free agency, but I think the timing of this deal suggests that's not going to happen.
When did bloom make a deal like this?Nothing changed under Breslow. Tells me Bloom was following the same orders.
Yes but Montgomery is 2 and at worst 3 on every other teamI personally love the deal. They moved their #4 and #5 prospect for a 25 YO that pitched like an ace

or it just might be because he doesn’t want to provide top of the rotation value at league minimum, probably thatThe funny thing is I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to throw another pitch without an extension, but that's really just because he knows his arm's about to fall off.
I don't know, pretty sure everything they've done so far says the opposite.
Very good prospect but that’s depth you can trade from given the outfield situation we have in the org. Same with Meidroth. Teel is the piece that truly hurts but yeah give me the 25 YO top of the rotation guyYes but Montgomery is 2 and at worst 3 on every other team
Cora pushing hard for Bregman apparently
