They acquire Crotchet because they didn’t want to pay free agent pitchers. Waste assets over money. Sounds very cheap.

Because they feel like they're several years away from competing, and by the time they're ready, he'll be a free agent. His value only drops the longer things play out.

The thing that annoys me the most about this trade is they did it cause its cheap, moneywise. His cost is low and come time to pay him, if he does perform like an ace, they will let him walk.

If he develops into a true ace and is healthy, I can't see a team that just offered over 600 Million to a player letting him walk because of money.
I'm certainly not guaranteeing anything, but I really think they have turned the corner on being cheap.
I think getting a quality arm at this point in the "rebuild" via trade is prudent, especially if, as they have said, they're also looking to add another quality arm.
I personally love the deal. They moved their #4 and #5 prospect for a 25 YO that pitched like an ace

The funny thing is I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to throw another pitch without an extension, but that's really just because he knows his arm's about to fall off.
I don't know, pretty sure everything they've done so far says the opposite.
That I totally agree with. Even the reports of infighting between Kennedy and Breslow (not that I believe that reporting but still). The owner has fans by the balls and doesn't care about the team. The management team led by untouchable Sam Kennedy couldn't find a GM to take the job.
The real person to blame for the Red Sox having to trade for a potential ace? Chaim Bloom. Fact not opinion.

It feels like a Dombrowski trade. It's not so much trading the prospects that's the issue, it's that you're not doing it efficiently.
Dombrowski could get away with it because he had the top payroll in baseball for half his tenure (and didn't have to deal with the obvious rebuild that was coming). As currently constructed, I don't think this team can afford a deal like this. I'd be happy to be wrong if they go out and spend a ton of money in free agency, but I think the timing of this deal suggests that's not going to happen.

They fire Dombrowski because the farm system was depleted, they hire Chaim Bloom to rebuild it, fire Chaim because the pro roster was lacking and uncompetitive, so they bring in Breslow to get the farm system.

Very good prospect but that’s depth you can trade from given the outfield situation we have in the org. Same with Meidroth. Teel is the piece that truly hurts but yeah give me the 25 YO top of the rotation guy
