MLB Network had 2 players joking you gotta be able to handle Boston

This place eats there young / sports radio is 24/7 shit show that intersects between dumb hosts and dumber callers wanting to fire everyone after every loss with no solution

It’s still December 11 season starts in 4 months

Where is Burns signing ?

Playing for Boston isn’t exactly Camelot

They want to win they aren’t trashing the team

Feel free to disagree and believe you are correct we will never agree on this
Unfortunately reality is on my side with their lack of spending these past years but still making money. They aren't trashing the team, they are just making strong revenue without spending and being able to use the money elsewhere.

Who knows? Wouldn't be shocked if there's a surprise team besides Giants and Blue Jays.

I think they have to accept the same thing that the Patriots have to accept, which is that they're no longer an attractive destination. And when that's the case, you have to convince players via significant overpays. But if you build things just right, you can reach the point where players might choose you when the money's close.

The players not wanting to play in Boston is extremely overrated. Players care about money. Boston is no different than New York and Philly in terms of fan pressure. And most people on the outside still think of Boston like it's pre curse. The media scrutiny and fan pressure is nowhere near what it used to be. Part of that is because they have won a lot but part of it is also fans are losing interest because the owner has lost the plot. If you pay absurd ticket prices to support John Henry you're just a complete stooge at this point.

Hilarious- players, hosts, and managers at MLB winter meetings all saying Boston one of if not the best baseball city in world but lot of players don’t want to play here - don’t have makeup - very intense “fans have no patience”……cited Adrien Gonzalez, Price, Crawford, Lackey - not everyone can handle it

Why when you got a Jon Lester, Carlton Fisk, Fred Lynn you keep them

Get Bregman who’s already edgy have him play 2B as a Pedroia type

Go balls to wall for Sasaki

If not go get Pivetta & maybe Flaherty (HS teammate of Giolito)

It was predictable that once we'd be past the Soto-pipedream, we'd be back at shaking our heads at the Red Sox immediately (it was basically the same movie last year and the year before), the FSG and their lackeys. It was predictable. Nothing has changed. They are so far under the LT-threshold that they are eventually going to spend some money, nobody is disputing that, but it's still a lack of urgency. And yes, you can already tell on December 11th.

The owners of sports franchises are lucky that a certain amount of fans have totally bought into the notion that it takes a long time to rebuild and during that process, it's ok not investing.

Hate to break it to you, but its happening.

The resort with an 18k basketball arena has all the gov't approvals and full funding.

Your premise the Red Sox don’t give a shit about winning

The LeBron Vegas thing is obvious - I was replying to the other

If it wasn’t you apologies trying to multi task

The problem is there’s isn’t really a going balls to the wall scenario for him. It’s international pool money so that is what it is, it’s going to be does he want to play here. And that track record is looking no bueno atm

So, they didn't sign Max Fried because they need the money for a team in Vegas they don't own yet?

You don't really believe that, do you?
it’s more they don’t have the same desire to win and care more about their bottom line

Sell him on the city etc

Ortiz was on a couple of weeks ago discussing Soto and how he told him he’d be huge here - cited a lot of guys can’t handle bright lights but guys like Pedro, Damon, Pedroia could

Bregman to me probably fits well - he’s a GG caliber fielder at third - not sure about range at second but would be of interest

Burnes top pitcher but would be come here even if Money more

Cashman just on mlb network says it’s important to find guys who can handle NY - not all can

I’d still go get Pivetta

Fsns Will complain but many (not all) will complain anything short of Ohtani
There is a large, large gap between signing Ohtani/Soto and signing Aroldis Chapman for a one year deal.

If Fried can handle NY he can handle Boston. He took the money.

If Ortiz and Pedro couldn’t get Soto here, who is selling Sasaki? Daisuke?????

The Yankees are winning the World Series if they get Kyle Tucker by the way

If I was the Red Sox, I would hold off on going balls to the walls on big free agent signings (Soto level no-brainer guys aside) until some of those top prospects were on the team and contributing.

As a fan, I want all the players now, of course.

Do you have prove for that, any examples? When was the last time they made a high profile signings that worked out well? Story? Yoshida? Giolito? You can say in the case of the latter it was bad luck, because the guys was never injured before, but he was only the second or third option during last winter when they actually wanted Lugo, but weren't willing to do what it took to get him and lost him to Kansas City (!).
When they signed Story, they settled on the 4th - 5th best option and took what was left on the market.

I am far from liking that Fried contract. And I won't like the Burnes one either. But at least the Yankees immediately went out after striking out on Soto and got their guy. They re-shifted their focus and went on to get their guy. Now some may laughing about how overpaid Fried is and how the Yanks are going to be in trouble soon with all these expensive contracts, but in reality I am still waiting for that to happen. And in 3-4 years, nobody cares about contracts from 2024, because the revenue will have gone up even more and you have to overpay for pitchers even more. What's the point?

Hell baby
I’m sorry but he can’t be the big addition. Between him and Giolito, it’s highly likely that by July we just have the exact same rotation we have now cause they’re out for the season. I’d love him for the playoffs but have no indication we’d be there or he would not be injured.

He’s the perfect guy to bring in alongside with another big addition. I just don’t see how you can rely on him in any way
Yeah it was an elbow problem. Elbow is fixed now. Shiny brand new ligament. Let him cook.

I’d still like Burnes too.

Or you use prospects to acquire proven players, who hopefully lead to success on the field, and then the FA's are more willing to come here.

It’s kinda funny that these fans then turn around and cry whenever another team signs a player they wanted lol

The pitcher I like the most is Cease. He seems to be available due to his contract status and thus be cheaper than someone like Crochet. In both cases, they'd need to work out an extension. Cease would be more expensive, but that shouldn't bother the Sox. And he has rebounded well after a slightly sub-par season in 2023.

The Padres seem to be in the need of shedding payroll, but could use some ml-ready players to be still somewhat competitive. The Sox are checking these boxes. They could offer some players like Crawford, Casas, Abreu, Fitts and more. And the Padres may even have other parts the Sox could be interested in.

I think San Diego may very well be the most fitting trade partner.
