f*** this...I'm tired of this bullshit

Keep charging fans top dollar though

I‘ve come to realize over the past 2-3 years that it‘s a lot easier and less stressful when you have zero expecations. I don‘t even expect them to make competent decisions (i.e. Devers at 3B) anymore. That‘s why Bregman at 2B would actually be fitting.

That's... disappointing.

If they can't land someone like Burnes, I wonder if they pivot to trying to make the roster as deep as possible. Really try to limit the number of sub-replacement level innings and at bats.

You can have a fairly successful regular season doing that, but it hasn't really proven to be a winning formula in the playoffs.

I'm not sure i would even want Burnes. His analytics took a dive last season and his once league best cutter inexplicably became awful. Like i'm talking throwing it 40+ times a game and only generating a single whiff awful.

I'm also not sure why the Giants want him. The way they've tried to build since 2021 is mystifying to say the least. Like half rebuilding, half trying to throw money around.

I know the Sox need a top SP, but is 8 years at big money for 31 year old pitcher smart? Are we paying for the past or future? Trade for Crochet and Cease and I'm happy.

2 full days into the winter meetings and not having a single thing done is truly a disgrace, it really is. Not even a trade. I don’t think they really give a f***

I don't know if we can exactly say that. I think it's more that Breslow doesn't have a decisive or aggressive bone in his body (he basically even admitted that recently). If he was a poker player, he'd limp in on every hand. He's not going to bet big to force other teams out. His strategy essentially relies on other teams folding. And because it's a personality feature (flaw), it's probably not going to change. I think I said it last year, but they basically replaced Chaim with a version of himself that couldn't be criticized for not having played or not having a connection to the team, while having pitching expertise.

It's also not like much has happened in the league the last 2 days. Soto, Fried, and Eovaldi are basically the only noteworthy new signings (yes, two of those really sting). Cleveland, Toronto, and Pittsburgh made a trade. The winter meetings always feel a bit anticlimactic.

This is an awful take. Corbin Burnes was arguably the best FA starting pitcher available. I still think he's better than Fried. Definitely better than Snell. The ONLY analytics that you need to know about him, is that this guy is a HORSE. Who can throw 4 absolutely filthy pitches for an out, at any time, and in any count.

Plus, he doesn't miss a start, ever (unlike Fried). And when he does start, he goes deep in games. The guy is a QS machine. When you've got a shit bullpen, that's important.

If I could pick ONE pitcher that I'd want on my roster at the start of Free Agency. Its that guy.

Buehler is my preference
I would have no issue overpaying him and giving him opt outs in a 3 year deal. He’s been top of my list for Mets all winter so far. Wanted he and Manaea, so far it’s been Montas and Holmes which is fine for the bottom of the rotation. Can’t believe they are comfy with Senga and Peterson as their 1-2. They are close with Crochet and the Sox apparently. Going to shudder at that return I can feel it

Why?

As other teams add guys like Burnes, Crochet, Sasaki and possibly Cease, do you really think you're keeping pace by signing Buehler? You're more comfortable taking a risk on Buehler than Crochet?

I get that Boston fans think that they have 4 potential Bobby Witt Jrs as prospects and nobody wants to part with any of them, but that pitching staff isn't going to fix itself.

Sasaki would be a big win he’s the guy Breslow wants - the Dodgers lurk but they have 10 starters. The Bluejays are below the radar

Other than that take a run at Pivetta but you lose the comp Q pick

Otherwise maybe Jack Flaherty

Fried is a lefty and Sox are lefty dominant lineup - that sucks

Until or unless they make a horrible trade things could be worse

I do like Bregman especially after getting elbow cleaned but what is the fallout

His arm isn’t strong to begin with and he could be 5 years of Pedroia at 2B
